2021 has been an exciting year for TikTok. Having begun by stepping into the gap left by Vine years ago, it has since shot past 1 billion MAUs globally. Now, the online video content platform is teaming up with Immutable X to bring its creators onto Ethereum.
With a model that is built around a massive network of small to large-scale content creators, getting on blockchain is an interesting step to take.
The decision to get onto Ethereum stems from its partnership with Immutable X – the layer-2 scaling solution for Ethereum.
In teaming with Immutable, TikTok is able to bring its NFTs to a constantly growing pool of users, while benefitting from a reliable, carbon-neutral method of doing so.
TikTok, famously known for its vast pool of content creators, will be bringing some of its most influential names to blockchain. Referred to as ‘TikTok Top Moments’, the NFTs will serve as a celebration of some of its most prominent names, including Lil Nas X, Rudy Willingham, Bella Poarch, Curtis Roach, Brittany Broski, FNMeka, Jess Marciante and Gary Vaynerchuk – have made across entertainment, culture, and the TikTok community.
So what sets these NFTs apart from others out there? As the name suggests, it gives people the opportunity to own one of TikTok’s iconic moments from the past few years. To name some examples:
The stop-motion tribute by Rudy_Willingham of Lil Nas X’s ‘Montero (Call Me By Your Name)’. Each of the 81 frames features Willingham’s signature cutouts, photographed against a background that reflects a different part of LNX’s genius.
Each of these videos and duets will also be featured on the platform’s Exhibit at the Museum of the Moving Image in Queens, New York – which will run from October 1st – November 5th.
