Sky Mavis has announced that Axie Infinity Origins has finally gone live on the Apple App Store, although only for a limited selection of countries.
Focusing on Latin America and parts of southeast Asia, the launch territories include Argentina, Colombia, Peru, Mexico, Venezuela, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Vietnam.
The move is the latest step in Sky Mavis’ longterm plan to build on the foundations of Axie Infinity Classic’s success in 2021 with a better gaming experience that doesn’t require players to own NFTs and which is available through traditional app stores.
However, holders of Axie NFTs will be able to use them in the app, although other blockchain features available within the app are limited to Moonshard crafting recipes. Crafting recipes using the SLP token have to be undertaken via the desktop version of the game.
Origins is already available on the Google Play Store, although again only for certain countries.
To-date, also including downloads of the APK and the Win/Mac version, Axie Infinity Origins has been downloaded more that 1.5 million times.
“Sky Mavis remains committed to our vision of a player-owner digital nation and is excited to work with app stores to open our ecosystem to a new generation of Lunacians,” commented CEO Trung Nguyen.
“The launch of both Axie Origins on the app store and our very own Mavis Marketplace is an important step towards creating more accessible and dynamic web3 gaming experiences. We have exciting updates on the horizon, including the much-anticipated release of our merch store, and are thrilled to continue to provide our community with more ways to engage with the Axie Infinity brand.”
In related news, Sky Mavis has also announced the launch of Mavis Market, a curated marketplace running on the Ronin blockchain on which selected projects including games can launch NFT collections.
All NFTs will be priced in the RON token, with Sky Mavis taking a 2% fee and Ronin treasury a 0.5% fee. Content creators can set their own royalty fee, which is guaranteed at the protocol level.
