Strategic partners over the past year, Yuga Labs and Faraway Games have announced that Faraway is acquiring HV-MTL and Legends of the Mara, aiming to take Yuga’s struggling IP to new levels.
In conjunction with the acquisition, Yuga’s Chief Gaming Officer Spencer Tucker will join the Faraway team as its new Chief Product Officer.
To mark the occasion, Faraway is releasing a new points system for HV-MTL and LoTM NFTs, effective from 18th April. With the aim not only to reward and rebuild enthusiasm among its community, the points system is also a way to drive utility to these NFT collections.
In terms of the HV-MTL points system, the HVs will get a revamped metadata field called HV-MTL Points, which are based on HV’s particular class, companion, and powerscore. In addition, the points are also determined by the evolution to EVO-2s, along with the consumed Amp and Rarity type.
The LoTM point system impacts Kodas and Kodamara NFTs. Notably, the Otherside Koda collection will remain in Yuga’s hands, but Kodas will nonetheless receive points based on the new system, which is determined by Kodas’ asset type and ability type. Concerning Kodamaras, these will receive points based on their role and the tier of the originating Mara, as well as the catalyst type and sediment used in fusion.
As per the official announcement, Faraway says, “Our mission has always been to create an ecosystem of interoperable games and economies that rewards players, and we approached Yuga a year ago to explore the use of their gaming IP”, adding “we realized that there was tremendous growth potential for Yuga’s gaming IP with our resources”.
The acquisition is part of Yuga’s strategic refocus on its core NFTs and community, although notably this doesn’t mention the two companies’ collaboration on Dookey Dash Unclogged, the sequel to Yuga’s Dookey Dash which was released in 2023. At the start of 2024, news unveiled about Faraway working closely with Yuga on the forthcoming title, notably integrating its UG platform to DDU players.
Backed by prominent investors such as Lightspeed, Sequoia, and a16z, in addition to working on HV-MTL, LoTM, and Dookey Dash Unclogged, Faraway has also launched browser-based FPS Mini Royale Nations and Mutant-themed city-builder Serum City, as well as its creator platform the Faraway shop.
