Fully onchain game Blob Arena launches into early access on Starknet

After receiving a grant from Starknet Foundation, developer Grug’s Lair has now launched fully onchain game Blob Arena into early access.

Starting out as a web3 gaming guild in 2020, Grug’s Lair pivoted to making fully onchain games at the end of 2023. Its player-centered vision combines mobile-first gaming with fully onchain technology.

Following months of development on Ethereum L2 Starknet, its tactical turn-based game has now launched in two versions, currently available via browser. These include single-player Arcade mode and Armored MMA PVP fighting (free and wager-based), as well as custom leaderboard modes.

Through an exclusive onboarding campaign, which has offered 100 free Arcade tokens to pre-registered users, the game has garnered over 1,200 pre-registrations.

With early access rolled out, new players can claim one free token every 24 hours. Throughout the early access period, Grug’s Lair has announced more Arcade token airdrops are planned to allow players to join the leaderboard. Live from 27th April to 27th May, top scorers in Arcade mode will also unlock special prizes and other in-game rewards.

With Blob Arena, the team hopes to actively engage not just players, but also schools and athletes from the Buhurt and Armored MMA circuits. 35 medieval combat academies have already joined the game.

Blob Arena is set to officially launch on 7th June, in conjunction with the Armored MMA event at the NFL Stadium in Canton, Ohio.
