After some years lacking focus, Polygon co-founder Sandeep Nailwal is taking back control of the Polygon Foundation.
In a forceful tweet he stated that he had decided to “take full control of the Polygon Foundation and will be its CEO going forward”. As for his immediate focus, that will be the main Polygon PoS chain and Agglayer, its cross-chain infrastructure.
For these reasons, Polygon is going to depreciate its Polygon zkEVM blockchain sometime in 2026.
This caught the attention of blockchain gaming commentators, given that the Immutable zkEVM blockchain is build on top of Polygon zkEVM.
However, Immutable CEO Robbie Ferguson has since confirmed that Immutable will not be impacted by the deprecation of Polygon zkEVM. He tweeted that neither chains using Polygon’s CDK code nor what he labelled “custom chains like Immutable” will be affected.
As for Polygon, despite once being the top blockchain in terms of gaming, its future will be about DeFi and real world assets according to Nailwal, although that’s not to say there won’t be gaming operating on the blockchain.
