While there’s been plenty of debate about how many players console/PC shooter Off The Grid has attracted, the more significant news is how many players will it have when everyone is finally playing on the mainnet version of its Avalanche-based Gunz blockchain?
The issue is that user behavior can be very different on a testnet in which assets have no real-world value, compared to a mainnet where they do.
This transition is one that developer Gunzilla Games has been trying to handle in recent months, in part waiting until it gets the legal licences it requires to launch its own wallet ecosystem, which is required before it migrates all Off The Grid’s players to the Gunz mainnet.
But while that process is still ongoing, we are beginning to see the first signs of players moving from testnet to mainnet.
Gunzilla has previously explained it’s allowing the game’s first 21,000 OG players to migrate to the mainnet first; also providing these players with the ability to start trading their NFTs on the OpenSea marketplace.
That doesn’t yet appear to be live, but data from Avalanche’s block explorer clearly shows very growth on the Gunz mainnet in terms of daily active unique wallet, with a peak of 22,136 wallets recorded on Sunday 29th June.
As is often the case, however, this hasn’t yet been reflected in the price of the Gunz token, which is down 79% from its first tracked price on 31st March 2025.
