Following the release of FIFA Rivals, the next big release for Mythical Games is its Pudgy Penguins-themed mobile party game Pudgy Party.
Pencilled in for a late August release, the game is already live in some countries, including the UK, which is how we downloaded the version from the Google Play store.
As you’d expect from a mass market-focused game, Pudgy Party is very simple, colorful and engaging.
Taking its lead from successful games in this genre such as Fall Guys and Stumble Guys, players jump into quick multiplayer levels, in which they have to be the fastest to make it to the finish line through various obstacle courses or knock other players off platforms to survive to the next round, and so on.
After every match there’s plenty of rewards, with the main focus being the unlocking and levelling up different penguins, which as well as their costumes have various attributes, both to speed your progress through levels and slow down your opponents with attacks.
As well as various in-game currencies, everything is delivered through gacha reward boxes. There’s also a simple battle pass.
Notably in this version of the game, there’s no monetization options but that’s persumably because this is an early version testing for retention and engagement, not monetization. Similarly, there’s no blockchain integration.
