The Sandbox has unveiled a new roadmap for its LAND NFTs, introducing additional creator benefits that will begin rolling out alongside the public launch of AI-centric The Sandbox Studio tools in Q4 2026.
This update is planned to give the LAND NFTs a more direct role in game discovery, monetization and publishing as the company prepares for a significant expansion in AI-generated user content.
The first changes are aimed squarely at creators publishing games on their own LAND. According to The Sandbox, games published on LAND will receive featured placement in the platform’s catalog, providing greater visibility that is weighted by LAND tier.
In addition, creators will unlock “preferred monetization mechanics” and receive “a bigger share of the revenue” generated by their games. The company has not yet disclosed the exact revenue split or what the additional monetization features will include.
The roadmap also expands the role of LAND owners beyond publishing their own games. Over time, owners will be able to host and curate experiences created by other developers, effectively allowing them to operate as publishers within The Sandbox ecosystem. LAND owners will be able to set themes, define commercial requirements, select which games appear on their LAND and earn revenue from the experiences they choose to support.
Alongside these economic changes, The Sandbox is rebuilding its world map in an isometric 3D format. Rather than navigating a flat grid of parcels, players will be able to zoom from a high-level overview down to individual LAND plots, with districts developing their own visual identities based on the experiences they contain. The update is intended to improve game discovery as the platform’s catalog expands.
These announcements are closely tied to the launch of The Sandbox Studio, the company’s new AI-powered game creation platform. Studio enables creators to build multiplayer voxel games using AI-assisted workflows before publishing them across multiple platforms, including the web and mobile devices.
As Studio lowers the barrier to creating games, The Sandbox is also updating LAND to play a larger role in how those games are surfaced and monetized.
The monetization changes are particularly significant because they link LAND ownership directly to the economics of game creation. The announcement does not say that creators must own LAND to publish games. Instead, publishing on LAND unlocks additional commercial benefits, including enhanced revenue sharing and access to extra monetization features. While further details are still to be announced, the roadmap makes clear that LAND ownership will provide tangible advantages for creators operating within the platform.
Taken together, the roadmap represents the most substantial update to LAND utility since The Sandbox’s early metaverse launches. Earlier versions of the platform largely presented LAND as virtual real estate where experiences could be built and visited. The new roadmap instead focuses on creator visibility, publishing and revenue generation.
