Gigaverse announces open-world social RPG Gigaverse Online

Gigaverse is preparing to move beyond its current browser-based dungeon RPG with Gigaverse Online, a new open-world social RPG the team says is now only a few months from launch.

The project describes the new game as being designed for long-term sustainability, entertainment and broader appeal beyond the relatively small crypto-native gaming market. It will replace what the team is now retrospectively calling Gigaverse 1.0 with a larger social game supported by a newly designed seasonal economy.

The announcement does not yet provide a detailed breakdown of Gigaverse Online’s activities or world systems. Instead, it concentrates on how players and assets from the existing game will make the transition.

Before Gigaverse Online launches, the current game will hold an in-game event called The Awakening. Items players have already earned will have different roles during this transition. Some will be used to craft items needed to compete in The Awakening, while others will remain directly usable during the event.

Cores, Medals and other important ecosystem assets will also contribute to what Gigaverse calls a player’s permanent record. This suggests that the team wants to preserve a lasting account of participation and achievement even as the existing economy is replaced by Gigaverse Online’s new seasonal structure.

The project is also developing ROMs 2.0, although it has not yet revealed how the new ROM system will operate or how existing ROM assets will be treated. More information about both ROMs 2.0 and The Awakening is due before Gigaverse Online launches.

The focus on a seasonal economy is particularly significant. Gigaverse says the new system is being built from the ground up around sustainability and entertainment, rather than simply extending the current accumulation of items indefinitely. That implies a more controlled economic structure in which some progression and assets may reset between seasons, while permanent achievements and selected ecosystem assets persist.

The move follows the launch of Gigling Racing, an onchain pet-racing game that launched earlier in 2026. Gigaverse explicitly describes Gigling Racing as fully onchain because its game logic exists within smart contracts that third-party developers can build upon.

Races, entries and results are recorded onchain, although outcomes are calculated by a custom Race Oracle before being submitted to the contracts.

In this manner, Gigling Racing can support independent interfaces, analytics platforms, automated agents and additional applications without developers needing approval to modify the original game client.

That approach was central to GIGATHON #1, Gigaverse’s first official hackathon, which ran from 15th to 25th June 2026. Participants were encouraged to create apps, mods and tools for the Gigaverse ecosystem, with a particular focus on Gigling Racing and the use of AI.

Suggested projects included analytics dashboards, racing tools, companion applications, agents and other utilities capable of interacting with Gigaverse’s systems.

The hackathon also provides important context for Gigaverse Online because it shows that the project is interested in more than simply producing content internally. Gigaverse has an open API, and founder Dith has previously highlighted how easily AI agents can interact with the game.

The available Agent API is already live without authentication keys, while a broader platform API remains on the roadmap. However, Gigaverse has not yet announced an integrated user-generated content system for Gigaverse Online.
