Submissions are now closed for Sky Mavis’ first AI-enabled hackathon; its Axie Vibeathon.
There were 402 registered builders, resulting in 90 completed games, which are now available to play online via the Vibeathon’s Game Hub.
No judging has yet been announced. Up to eight games will gain additional time and resources in the second part of Vibeathon, which is expected to be announced in the coming days.
The judging process will weigh the concept of Axie Core — the class and six body parts of each Axie — at 35% of the total score, ahead of gameplay at 25%, and the field reflects that.
38 of the game tie each Axie’s DNA directly to a game mechanic.
In terms of the genre breakdown, there was plenty of variety, but the influence of Axie Infinity as a card-based battler is clear to see. Nearly half of the games involved some level of strategic combat.
Interesting examples included:
- Axie Infinity: Tactics (Prismrangers) – a grid-based tactical RPG citing Final Fantasy Tactics and Disgaea,
- Lunacia Synergy (Tormen28) – a 3D auto-battler where players build a 36-Axie deck, manage shop economy and interest, and activate fusions requiring genetic purity on a hex board, while
- Axie Infinity Tactics Dice (Kingstower97) – was more novel – six body parts, six faces, your Axie is your die.
However, there was also a long tail of other games including racers, cozy games, even a couple of shooters.
Perhaps not surprising at this early stage of the vibeathon, only 11 games required use of a Ronin wallet and/or allowed players to use their actual Axie NFTs. However, blockchain features were an optional element in the Vibeathon.
In terms of early feedback from the community, the top 5 games have generated 40% of all the positive feedback with Lunacia Command leading on 36 likes, Angry Axies on 28, then a three-way tie on 26 between Axie Infinity: Tactics, Axie: Lost Bonds and Axie Royale.
Other games worth investigating include
- Tower Of Lunacia – a 100-floor MMO where the players collectively funds the lift to the next floor,
- TEKS GO – an Axie-themed version of a traditional Filipino game, and
- Axie Go – a move-to-earn GPS mobile game.
