Although not yet one of the largest genres, blockchain racing games is a growing category with new and varied projects being released continuously.
Apart from the general advantages of using blockchain technology in games, racing games in particular enable players to own their digital assets such as cars, tracks, and other in-game items. Some prominent games also have partnerships with popular car brands and racing teams and offer NFTs, which can both be used in-game but have also proven to be attractive as stand alone assets.
With web3 technology users can buy, sell, and trade their assets through secure and immutable transactions while also earning rewards for playing, covering mileage and winning races.
To better understand how some of these projects apply web3 technology to their gameplay, we will take a closer look at three top blockchain racing games.
REVV Racing
REVV Racing is an arcade simulation racing game developed by Animoca Brands. It allows players to collect, trade, and race digital cars, each being an NFT on the Ethereum blockchain.
Players can earn REVV-tokens by participating in races, which in turn can be used to purchase additional cars or other in-game items.
The game features both single-player and multiplayer modes and the game has partnerships with a number of racing teams and organizations, including Formula E and MotoGP.
Rumble Racing Star
Rumble Racing Star, developed by Delabs Games, is a fun-focused lawnmower racing game. One of its prominent features is the game’s interoperability, which enables players to acquire PFP NFTs with real in-game utility. For example, holders of Goblintown and y00ts can play as a goblin or a y00t character in Rumble Racing Star.
The Delabs team has previous experience of creating racing games, having worked on Mario Kart-inspired PC game Kart Rider.
The studio had its first mint of Adventure Pass NFTs in early April, which quickly sold out. The PC game is still in development and will be released on Polygon.
Nitro Nation World Tour
Nitro Nation World Tour, developed by Creative Mobile and Mythical Games, is a mobile racing game for car enthusiasts. With a strong emphasis on its community, Nitro Nation World Tour hosts online festivals and car meet-ups. Players can earn, customize, upgrade, buy, and sell fully licensed NFT cars and workshops and have true digital ownership of their car collections.
The workshops enable users and their ‘Social Clubs’ to optimize the cars’ performance more efficiently and at a lower cost. First however, users have to buy the workshop NFTs, something that will also give access to the closed beta and an exclusive airdrop of Founders’ rewards.
Nitro Nation World Tour will use the Mythos blockchain and is set to launch in Q2 2023.
