It was a degen RPG but what’s Gigaverse becoming?

Gigaverse is trying to expand. The high-risk, high-reward browser RPG that launched on Abstract in early 2025 went offline on 9th October after its final event, The Awakening.

It will return in the form of persistent MMORPG Gigaverse Online soon but that’s not the entirety of the plan. Instead, founder Dith says the aim is to build “the next great character company”, with a small, hand-animated character called Giga Noob at its center.

Quite how this will combine with web3 is unclear. Gigaverse’s existing GLHFers and ROM NFTs are being converted into the new Giga Legends collection. But Dith argues that “running an NFT collection” is not a real business, and that web2 fans basically never convert into NFT buyers. Instead of selling crypto assets to a mainstream audience, Gigaverse wants to sell that audience ordinary products.

For he believes that audience will be the project’s main asset. Giga Noob’s YouTube channel of short video has surpassed 2.3 million subs, with 35 million unique monthly viewers in September. Dith says the character has been watched by one in eight American family households.

The first real test of whether those viewers will spend money comes this Christmas. An online store is due in Q4 with limited first-generation Giganoob items. Nooby, a habit-tracking mobile app built around a Noob companion, has a waitlist but no launch date, and its site doesn’t mention crypto.

But games remain part of the plan. As stated, Gigaverse Online is a new multichain browser game, designed for a broader set of gamers, with tutorials and less of a pay-to-win feel. It will launch on Robinhood’s chain, while Dith says another game is close to release and a third is in early development. A second character with its own channel has been promised too.

The strategy rests on the argument that AI cheapens anything copyable, thus making loved characters a more durable asset, with collectibles and gacha as the way to monetize them. It’s a coherent thesis, but so far an unproven one. Gigaverse has shown it can attract the wallets of crypto whales and the eyeballs of kidults. What it hasn’t yet shown is how these can be combined into a mass market business.
