Why Sky Mavis CEO Trung Nguyen wants you to build on open Ronin

Launched in 2021, Sky Mavis’ gaming blockchain Ronin has now become open and permissionless.

Previously a curated network optimized for games, the transition will see Ronin become a broader ecosystem, not only serving games but also more general DeFi and web3 applications.

Taking on this feat, it hopes to still remain the leading gaming blockchain, ahead of the likes of Immutable, Mythos, Wemix, and Oasys.

Leading up to the launch, a handful of developers have already revealed their plans of either expanding or fully migrating to Ronin. For instance, the network is onboarding games including Fishing Frenzy, Arena of Faith, Rumble Kongs, Chronos Worlds, AI-driven NRN Agents, and Sovrun’s AI framework Ready Gamers.

Following in the footsteps of these, Nifty Island, De:Lithe Last Memories, Hello Monster, Avarik Saga, Photo Finish, and Sunflower Land have also chosen to deploy to open Ronin.

However, the most prominent game to join the network is Proof of Play’s Pirate Nation, which currently runs across Arbitrum-based chains Apex and Boss. It’s not clear whether it will be running a new version of the game on Ronin or allowing Ronin wallets to sign into its existing infrastructure.

To facilitate for its new builders, Sky Mavis has released a developer SDK – Ronin Developer Console – including features and tools such as

  • Ronin Waypoint and Ronin Wallet integration.
  • NFT collection listing.
  • Sponsored transactions.
  • In-game marketplace and token swap SDK.
  • Fiat-to-crypto onramp solutions.
  • Battle-tested smart contract templates.

In addition, Ronin has enhanced its cross-chain security protocols by integrating Chainlink’s CCIP. This ensures secure bridging to Ethereum and enables linking to Coinbase’s Base blockchain.

Sky Mavis co-founder and CEO Trung Nguyen commented, “Today marks the dawn of Ronin’s golden age. Over the past four years, we’ve cemented our status as the premier gaming chain, and now we’re evolving once again.”

“I believe this moment will be studied for years to come. Today, everyone is invited to join us. If you’re building something that will make sense to everyday people, we want you to build it on Ronin. Welcome!”
