Azra’s dark fantasy RPG UnGodly aims to “shock and awe” gamers this winter
Originally known as Legions & Legends, then Project Legends, US developer Azra Games has now confirmed that its web3-enabled PC/mobile dark fantasy RPG UnGodly will be released later this year.
Azra, which has raised around $70 million in funding, has been fairly secretive about the game. However, it now plans to perform a “full reveal” this fall, before a winter launch through app stores, Steam and Epic Games Store.
The game, which boasts the mission statement “Our world is broken. Violence is the answer” is described as featuring visceral combat combining brutal real-time fights and strategic gameplay.
Significantly, it will also have an affinity system, which in this setting is designed to encourage players to build emotional connections between their characters, something backed by what’s described as “raw, vulnerability-driven narratives and intense dialog”.
Called Primals, players take these four characters into battle, swapping between them to make the most of their unique elemental powers based around earth, ice, fire and lightning.
The affinity system impacts combat as the Primals can execute devastating combination attacks but only if they have sufficient trust in each other.
“UnGodly isn’t just a game; it’s a story about survival, struggle, and the indomitable human spirit, and it’s designed to speak to the primal instincts we all share. We’ve created a world that is raw and honest, and will feel authentic to players who will recognize themselves in the characters.” said Azra’s CEO Mark Otero.
“UnGodly is ambitious. We aim to shock and awe gamers with an unapologetically classic dark fantasy experience inspired by the role-playing games that many of us grew up with.”
