The Sandbox goes AI, announcing Studio creation platform
Following the lead of Roblox, which has been rapidly integrating AI into its creation tools, The Sandbox has announced The Sandbox Studio, positioning it as a “complete creation environment designed for AI-native workflows”.
Soon to be available in alpha, The Sandbox Studio is built on the experience of hundreds of creators who have been building in The Sandbox over the years. It enables creators to plug in whichever LLM they are using, whether Claude Code, Cursor or OpenAI Codex, with Studio providing the framework to ensure everything works properly.
“The Sandbox Studio allows any creator to start with a raw concept and produce a live, published multiplayer game in under two hours,” it states.
The Sandbox Studio will launch with six production-ready TypeScript templates, including first-person shooters, vehicle simulators and side-scrollers. It will also include over 300,000 voxel assets, although creators will be able to make their games using any art style they want, not just The Sandbox’s characteristic blocky aesthetic.
In addition, The Sandbox is keen to stress that this workflow extends beyond simply making an interactive experience, with Studio also handling business tasks such as monetization and publishing.
Currently, games can be distributed on desktop, mobile web or Telegram Mini Apps, with options such as Steam, mobile app stores, YouTube Playables and other major platforms being added over time.
The Sandbox Studio will also take a small revenue share from games that monetize their players.
