Alex Atallah is the Co-founder and CTO of OpenSea. Alex was the CTO of hostess.fm, which was acquired by Beatport in 2014. He previously worked at Palantir building cybersecurity products. He graduated from Stanford University in Computer Science.
Q – What talk will you be hosting?
A – For “Values of NFT’s” panel: I’ll cover how top-valued NFTs on OpenSea get started, and major patterns we’ve noticed developing in the past few months that influence both financial and user-perceived value.
Q – Tell us a bit about OpenSea and what your role entails
A – OpenSea is the first and largest marketplace for crypto collectibles and non-fungible tokens. Engineering, BD, product planning, and general founder things
Q – Why did you want to work in the games industry?
A – I wasn’t planning on it! Just realized that it was a real fit when I was tinkering with blockchain tech.
Q – What advice would you give to anyone looking to get into the business?
A – Try to separate signal (genuine excitement from using a product) from noise (users making a quick buck without understanding the utility of a product), and pursue signal single-mindedly.
Q – What are your thoughts of the industry in the last 12 months?
A – Getting much more signal-focused!
Q – What major trends do you predict in the next 12 months?
A – Engineers leaving big tech companies for smaller crypto-focused ones.
Q – How has the games industry changed since you first started?
A – Better graphics and gameplay on blockchain games.

A – Meeting new people, learning about what they’re working on, and reconnecting with contacts in Asia!
