Ubisoft’s Captain Laserhawk is first Arbitrum game to mint on Magic Eden

After its initial playtests of Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E., Ubisoft has announced its partnering with Magic Eden to launch the game.

Unveiled at the beginning of August, Ubisoft’s latest web3 game will launch on Arbitrum, and will as such be the first title on the network to mint on NFT marketplace Magic Eden.

Not yet revealed when, the first mint will entail 10,000 Citizen ID NFTs, which gate early access to the game and other benefits, as well as record governance activity. Essentially, the power of the Citizen ID card is determined by a player’s activity in regards to seasonal rankings and earned accolades. A more powerful ID means more access to exclusive features and rewards.

Among the perks of holding a Citizen ID is governance rights. As Ubisoft invites the community to engage in the game’s future, the NFTs grant voting power on key decisions on the game’s plot and direction.

These dynamic NFTs, with stats changing depending on player activity, has become a popular way to create utility in web3 games. As NFT trading volume has been slow to pick up during 2024, Ubisoft – which is deploying its inaugural web3 game Champions Tactics on the Oasys blockchain – choosing to deploy Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E. on Arbitrum, and the two expanding to Magic Eden, shows the industry’s continued attempts to innovate.

In terms of the game itself, it’s a competitive top-down shooter set in an alternative universe in which the US has become a dystopian technocracy called Eden. Animated character Rayman is the face of the regime. Based on the TV animation Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix, the game will also include a series of other Ubisoft IP such as Assassin’s Creed, Rainbow Six and Beyond Good and Evil.
