Updated: Axie MMO Atia’s Legacy hits 2.5 million pre-registrations

With its prize pool expanding as the number of referred players increases, it’s not surprising that Sky Mavis’ recently unveiled Axie MMO Atia’s Legacy is generating significant buzz.
A prize pool comprising 25,000 AXS tokens are up for grabs among the top referrers, and so far the game has seen over 2.5 million pre-registrations.
As it turns out, users can now also vote on Ronin-based prediction market Forkast on how many pre-registrations the game will generate by 1st April, which might be an indication of the actual sentiment around the game.

As for Atia’s Legacy itself, we don’t know a whole lot more than the initial announcement, other than some early thoughts on the game’s economic elements, as provided by Sky Mavis COO Aleksander Larsen via X.
Firstly he emphasises that the game will not have its own token, but be underpinned by the existing AXS token. However, there will be “a lot of experimentation with NFTs and resource tokens”.
Looking at the current web3 games market and some of the conclusions and solutions now being provided, this seems to be the most logical and sustainable way forward.
In terms of the game’s economic design, it also includes embedding player-driven markets by ensuring resources are scarce and unevenly distributed to initiate trading and conflicts. To this end, players will also be encouraged to specialize in goods and resource production.
As for the game’s more long-term introduction of guild warfare, the idea is to have large groups of players engaging in combat to optimize the production and destruction of resource-heavy items. This has to be arranged through strong social features.
“Large guild coordination and meaningful conflicts with real losses keep players engaged, supported by strong social structures and opportunities for learning after defeat.”
