Despite industry headwinds, some top web3 games are growing

Looking at what defines a successful game, daily activity is seen as one of the key metrics, regardless of it being a web2 or web3 game.
So while other web3 gaming indicators such as token prices remain on a downward tract and the general sentiment in a prolonged slump, it’s positive to see that daily activity has not dropped off anywhere near as dramatically.
Indeed, as for some of the top web3 games, there’s been a steady increase in daily active unique wallets during 2024 and carrying on into early 2025.
For instance, now with over 110,000 unique active wallets, Axie Infinity has seen the most remarkable growth, starting out from around 15,000 in January 2024. Of course, Axie’s generous reward system including a daily dose of AXS tokens accounts for some of its growth.

In the case of Alien Worlds – up from around 65,000 to around 95,000 DAUWs – it also rewards players daily with its TLM token, but only a small amount. As is the case for Nine Chronicles, which is currently reworking its NCG tokenomics.
In terms of growth, it’s up from around 45,000 to around 80,000 DAUWs as of March 2025.
Also worth pointing out is that in order to earn daily from these games, users are required to first have bought hundreds of dollars worth of NFTs and other assets to get to that level. These games’ extractable value is clearly not the only feature attracting players.
As for the most popular web3 game of 2024, Pixels, it has struggled to retain its peak of over 1 million DAUWs recorded in May 2024. Despite dropping off to its current 250,000 DAUWs however, it remains the top web3 game with more than double the daily active players compared to the others.
Much of Pixels’ major drop in mid-2024 has to be seen in the context of the developer’s active bot prevention as well as a general reworking of the game’s reward system. With its PIXEL token price down 93% since launch, it’s again unlikely that players are only engaging with the game to extract resources.
