Game of the Week: Might & Magic Fates

18th July: Might & Magic Fates

Amid a turbulent time for Ubisoft, the French developer has launched its third blockchain-enabled game Might & Magic Fates. Released globally for mobile via App Store and Google Play, the game will also launch “soon” via Steam for PC.

Set within the Might & Magic universe and lore, it’s a strategy TCG where players build battle decks combining cards of heroes, creatures, buildings, spells, and artifacts from five different Might & Magic factions. Featuring hundreds of unique cards, players grow their collection by playing and earning rewards. Cards can either be obtained in booster packs, which can be bought with gold earned through gameplay, or via in-app purchases.

The cards contain varying rarities, spanning from common to legendary, and significantly, some are tradable NFTs while others are not.

Released on the Immutable blockchain, the game is Ubisoft’s third web3 title, with the others being Champions Tactics and Captain Laserhawk The G.A.M.E.

18th July: Soccerverse

Having successfully completed its first six-month-long season, fully onchain football management game Soccerverse starts Season 2 on Saturday 19th July.

The game world consists of 5,350 clubs, each of which can be managed both in terms of match decisions such as squad selection, tactics and substitutions, as well as in terms of transfers and investments.

Games typically take place twice a week, although there are also cup competitions.

Running on the Polygon blockchain, using Metamask is the simplest way to interact with the game but you can also log in with socials.

Players can start managing a club for free but to get access to transfers and the deeper features, you have to be unlocked, either by buying influence in that club or getting an existing influence holder to unlock you using the game’s internal messaging system.

Alternatively, there’s also a jobs board on which influence holders can advertise open manager roles for new players to accept.

13th May: FIFA Rivals

Mythical Games’ latest official sports game is now live through the app stores but FIFA Rivals is a very different game to NFL Rivals.

For one thing, you hold your phone like a phone not like a Switch to play. The game’s focus is real-time PvP rather than NFL Rivals’ less exciting PVE mode.

The gameplay is also more integrated with asset ownership, both of the real-life players, as well as other items such as kit, boots and balls, all of which can give players a boost.

In order to stop the game being pay-to-win, however, players can only be used for a fixed number of games before you have to pay to reup them. That will make it more expensive to use more expensive players.

Of course, some of these game assets are NFTs, which means you can also trade them on the Mythical Market.

26th May: Craft World

Launching its inaugural Angry Dynomites Lab NFTs on Ethereum in 2022, Voya Games has since been working on fully onchain mobile/browser idle resource game Craft World. Defying an otherwise dry sector in terms of new investments, the Berlin-based developer recently secured $5 million for its multi-game ecosystem in which Craft World is the central point.

Running on the Polygon testnet since 2023, the game is an idle resource management sim revolving around simple gameloops where players collect, craft and trade resources in order to build masterpieces.

These are time-limted collaborative constructions that players collectively donate resources towards, climbing the leaderboard, earning XP and rewards based on their contributions.

This lays the foundation for a sustainable player-owned economy, a core part of Voya’s long-term vision.

Adding further depth, in addition to the Angry Dyno NFTs, every in-game resource will also be tradable onchain via the game’s marketplace once the game goes live via mainnet. Its onchain currency DynoCoin will serve as the ecosystem’s utility token.

14th May: Blocklords

Continuing to build one of the most ambitious web3 games to-date, Swedish developer Metaking Studios recently released battle mode in its grand mediaeval strategy game Blocklords.

With farming being the only mode since the Blocklords open beta launch at the start of 2024, Battleborne has been a much anticipated and significant addition to the game. It lets players strategically set up their battle units, containing a mix of archers, cavalry, and infantry, to charge down enemy troops on the battlefield, in order to climb the leaderboard.

To support the units, resources which are generated through the basic farming loops are required to recover, strengthen and recruit heroes for the battles, connecting the game’s various elements neatly.

In addition, new in-game stores have been added, both using the influence offchain currency and fiat payment methods via Xsolla.

Other upcoming features tying into this is hero progression, which will let players enhance their heroes and squads using EXP cards. Players will be able to earn these through gameplay later in the ongoing season.

24th April: The Sandbox

While marketed as the highlight of alpha season 5, The Sandbox‘s Jurassic World experience has seen some strong competition from other high profile experiences.

Among them are Oasis of Quantum Consciousness, a social digital wellness garden fronted featuring Deepak Chopra, and the recently announced Bruce Lee-themed social hub, which will also be joined in future by a solo experience called Tao of the Dragon.

One of the standout experiences is The British Museum, which shares the same AdventureWorld: The Wildlands location as other major IPs, including Bruce Lee and Jurassic World.

Within The British Museum, players can move between numerous mini-games within the the museum itself. A nice feature is how the game keeps shifting between day and night, with many of its mini-games required to be completed within the three minutes of night-time.

One great example is the Four Tasks of Heracles, which see players digging a hole to trap a boar, trying to catch a stag, find a bull, and herd a bird. Another is a pair-matching game that reveals a code to solve Egyptian hieroglyphs.

After all, the real world British Museum does contain the Rosetta Stone.

With the season ending 12th May, there’s still about three weeks left to go.

Download the launcher and discover more Alpha Season 5 experiences from the official game website.
