Wildcard to launch on Steam in October 2025

Depending on who you talk to, Playful Studio’s Wildcard has been in development for three, five or perhaps even seven years.
During that time, plenty of aspects of the game have changed as its US developer has gone through a long iterative process to come up with what it now calls the world’s first collectible card action game – a 2v2 real-time game that mixes elements of MOBA, sports and character collection.
And now we know when it will be formally launched for everyone to play.
Talking on a Thousands stream, CEO Paul Bettner said the company’s recently announced $6.5 million investment gives it the runway to “announce a new launch date for Wildcard of October 2025″.
Confessing that he had previously said “summer or even late summer”, Bettner said that as well as the funding, the company had been lining up other aspects of its launch schedule.
As a recap, Wildcard is a pure web2 games without any blockchain elements, while Thousands is Playful’s web3 streaming platform, which will be integral to the wider Wildcard’s community, including its metagame, which includes the ability to wager on games as well as the ability to support teams and build out sports franchises.
