New identity-focused L1 Moca Chain will launch in Q4 2025

Do we need another blockchain? Animoca Brands and the Moca Foundation is hoping yes, as they’ve just announced they will be launching the Moca Chain in Q4 2025.
The EVM-compatible, modular L1 blockchain will be based around the existing Ethereum-based MOCA token, which launched in July 2024, and which up-to-this-point has been part of the chain-agnostic ID network called Moca Network, using its AIR Kit tech stack, which has web2 and web3 components.
This has been leveraged by some of the over 450 consumer-facing blockchain projects that Animoca has invested in over the past seven years to build a community through games and apps.
Companies integrating the tech include Sony’s Soneium blockchain, Magic Eden, the Plume blockchain, South Korean loyalty app SK Planet and soccer community OneFootball.
Moca Chain will expand this drive, working alongside AIR Kit and providing the blockspace for individuals, devices, and even AI agents to control, unify, and verify their digital credentials without relying on centralized platforms.
In order to enable this Moca Chain will allow on- and offchain user data to be verified via any application on any chain, using zero knowledge proofs and not requiring any direct API integrations.
It will use the MOCA token for gas, validator staking, storage, oracle, data generation, and verification fees.
“Billions of users today go online using single sign-on, which contains the keys to a user’s data, services, and digital lives. While convenient, SSO represents a centralized point of failure that compromises security while also allowing operators to aggressively extract value from users’ digital selves,” commented Animoca’s Yat Siu.
“Moca Chain seeks to solve this problem by giving users decentralized true ownership of their data, ensuring the sovereignty of users’ digital identity without a single point of failure.
“This aligns strongly with the mission of Animoca Brands to advance digital property rights and empower individuals to control and benefit from their online activities and their personal data, enabling more equitable sharing of the value that users generate through their online presence and activity.”
Moca Chain’s testnet is expected to launch in Q3, with the mainnet planned for Q4 2025.
