With a team including Ronaldo and Neymar, can esports veteran Michael ‘ODEE’ O’Dell master Soccerverse?
Season 2 in fully onchain football management sim Soccerverse is off to a heated start. At least that’s the case for some of its more ambitious players including Michael ‘ODEE’ O’Dell.
One of the founders of Team Dignitas, which was acquired by NBA team Philadelphia 76ers, and currently Great Britain Esports Team Manager, ODEE is on a mission to take his local team Sutton from Soccerverse’s English Division 6 all the way to Division 1.
“I was born nearby and worked in Sutton for 18 years. I also have many friends who are part of the team’s current ownership group,” he says.
“To get them to the highest division in Soccerverse is my goal.”
Only able to be promoted one league a season, ODEE’s goal won’t be achieved in the next six months – despite a huge 20-1 win over Northfleet to kickstart the new season – but rather over the span of a couple of years. Indeed, the earliest Sutton could reach Division 1 is December 2027.

The soon-to-be Soccerverse multi-league champion ODEE has previously proven his capabilities with similar games, having brought Sutton to the top many times in Football Manager. Recently boosted by a pre-season cash inflow of 29 million SVC tokens ($500), Sutton is on the right track towards Soccerverse glory, having added the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar Jr and Dele Alli to the team.
Far from pay-to-win however, Soccerverse‘s economical depth means managers can’t buy their way to success, even if they spend more than other clubs. Built on a battle-tested match engine and backed by real-time player ratings, no matter how wealthy, managers have to demonstrate skill in order to succeed.
More than just managing his squad from game to game, ODEE also has to account for potential injuries, depleted energy levels and match suspensions.
