NFL Rivals enters its third year as Kickoff season rolls out
In conjunction with its second anniversary, Mythical Games has rolled out opening season Kickoff in American football game NFL Rivals, right ahead of the start of the regular NFL season.
During its three year timespan, NFL Rivals has seen over 7 million downloads via app stores, making it one of the top web3 games in terms of lifetime users.
Concluding on 25th September, Kickoff runs for four weeks, dropping a total of 33 player cards, one for every NFL team. The cards are divided into
- 2 Mythical – Brock Bowers and Brian Burns – of which one is available in ultra rare packs, and one only available to earn through gameplay
- 11 Legendary, dropping gradually throughout the season
- 10 Epic, released week by week
- 10 Rare, available in packs at any time
Notably, there are no Common cards, a result of the lessons of asset scarcity Mythical has learned over the years. To simplify things further, all Kickoff specific cards have also been added to the regular pack pools.

In terms of events, the weekly schedule has also changed. For players preferring to grind, there are weekly currency events running from Monday to Thursday, while weekends including Fridays are designated for “Chase Events” – tailored to players looking to ramp up their rewards.
To cap it off, the season ends with a Mythical Event, exclusively accessible for the top leagues.
In addition, there’s a four-week power pass available containing gems, tokens and packs, including one exclusive Legendary card. Finally, the crafting loops have also been notably simplified, allowing players to convert their Common cards and upgrade Rare ones.
More generally, these updates seem to come as a response to player feedback.
“We’ve learned a thing or two. We’ve cleaned things up, locked in on what works, and built a kickoff program worthy of the grind,” says Mythical.
CEO John Linden has also been transparent about the learnings the studio has accumulated over the years.
