Axie Infinity: Atia’s Legacy PVP playtest is live

Sky Mavis has opened the third playtest for Atia’s Legacy, its forthcoming MMO set in Axie Infinity’s Lunacia, with the latest build focused entirely on real-time PVP combat.

The new test is available on iOS and Android for players with access codes, and follows the second Atia’s Legacy playtest, which rebuilt the game around single-Axie manual combat, a dash, ultimate abilities, dungeon runs, new weapons and boss encounters.

The first test looked at whether Axie’s long-discussed MMO vision could work as a playable 3D mobile experience. The second test was about whether the combat loop had enough feel and responsiveness once the team stripped out the earlier squad-control system. Playtest 3 is a sharper question: can Atia’s Legacy support PVP?

According to the announcement, the new mode is a real-time free-for-all in which eight players fight against each other, with matches built around a five-minute timer, a first-to-10-kills win condition, kill/death performance, and mushroom buffs giving increased movement speed, attack damage or HP regen scattered through the arena.

The associated Trial of Eight PVP challenge, which costs 1 AXS for entry, begins on Thursday 2nd July and carries a 2,500 bAXS prize pool.

This is the most important test so far because PVP is where Atia’s Legacy has to prove it is more than a nostalgia project for existing Axie holders. Axie Infinity already has assets, liquidity, lore and a historically committed community. What it has lacked since the 2021 boom is a flagship game capable of expanding the audience beyond people already financially or emotionally invested in the ecosystem.

Atia’s Legacy is designed to provide this. When Sky Mavis announced the game, it positioned it as a cross-platform MMO built around social coordination, player-owned assets, guild conflict and the wider Axie economy. The original announcement described guild wars and social coordination as central to the eventual endgame.

The news of the playtest follows the V1 launch of Terrariums, the new game built on Axie Infinity’s land NFT, although at this stage it’s more of a simple yield project, enabling land holders to earn bAXS.

Atia’s Legacy’s playtest runs until Friday 3rd July. Find out more here.
