Gigaverse launches $20,000 The Awakening event

Gigaverse has kicked off The Awakening, a two-month event designed to close out the current version of its Abstract-based RPG while preparing players and its economy for the forthcoming MMORPG Gigaverse Online.

At the heart of The Awakening are Hard Cores, a new event resource players are encouraged to accumulate. The event launches with a $20,000 USDC prize pool, which will continue growing through 50% of revenue from Giga Juice purchases and 50% of fees generated by trading on the Gigamarket during the event.

Players can earn Hard Cores through various activities, notably the new Forest Dungeon and Forest Fishing modes, alongside daily and weekly quests and item turn-ins. In the Forest Dungeon, players spend energy to make runs, earning Hard Cores as they progress through rooms, with tougher encounters offering greater potential rewards.

Players can increase their Core earnings using existing Gigaverse resources. Silver and gold rings can be offered to increase drop rates, while players with an active Giga Juice subscription — around $20 per month — receive a 4x base Hard Core multiplier. Juice also increases the number of daily attempts available for activities such as fishing.

Hence The Awakening isn’t introducing another resource to grind. It is also designed to consume resources accumulated during Gigaverse’s previous seasonal game. Existing items and materials can be used for Awakening equipment and consumables, while the event’s item turn-ins provide another route for converting inventory into Hard Core progress.

At the end of the event, Hard Core totals will determine players’ positions on the Hall of Noobs leaderboard. Qualifying players will receive gacha boxes containing different amounts of USDC and unique cosmetics, while the Hall of Noobs will provide a permanent record of players’ achievements.

More significantly, The Awakening provides the bridge into Gigaverse Online.

Gigaverse’s current incarnation is essentially a browser-based dungeon crawler, with short gameplay sessions, energy restrictions and seasonal progression. Gigaverse Online is intended to substantially expand that format into a persistent open-world social RPG, extending the project beyond its existing dungeon-based structure. Gigaverse has previously described its broader ambition as creating a “universe of universes“, with third-party developers also building experiences around its ecosystem.

The transition creates an obvious problem: what happens to the assets and resources players have accumulated in the existing game?

Rather than simply shutting down the old economy and starting again, The Awakening gives players a final period in which those resources remain useful. Some can be consumed to improve performance in the event, while various assets and items are being prepared to retain utility as Gigaverse moves into its next phase. Gigaverse has previously confirmed, for example, that its Egg NFTs will carry over into its open-world game.

In this respect, The Awakening is both a live event and an economic migration mechanism. It gives existing players a reason to consume accumulated resources, creates a competitive finale for the current game and establishes persistent recognition.
