Top 50 blockchain game companies of 2025

A lot has happened in the 12 months since we last considered which were the top 50 blockchain game companies.

And so, with sentiments rising high that 2025 will be the sector’s best year yet, we’ve crunched the data, solicited advice and fired up our ranking abacus to arrive at the official listing of our top blockchain game companies.

50. Skrice Studios

2024 started well for Vietnamese developer Skrice Studios with its much anticipated mobile strategy game Heroes of Mavia going live through app stores with over a million downloads, as well as seeing its MAVIA token hitting a market cap high of $300 million. After that initial excitement, however, the months following have been focused on building out additional core features, notably the game’s integration with Base, which is the blockchain used for its in-game skins and earnable RUBY cryptocurrency. On that basis, Heroes of Mavia remains something of a work-in-progress, but is still a good example of how to enable blockchain features within Apple and Google’s restrictions.

49. ATMTA
When the going gets tough, hardcore Star Atlas fans keep playing and developer ATMTA keeps building too. From its lofty position as the exemplar par excellence of ambition when it launched the triple-A title on Solana in 2021, Star Atlas assets – and its reputation – have experienced a heady fall. But what’s surprising is that progress towards that goal continues. From its SAGE Labs economic simulation to its more eye-catching 3D test environments, the Star Atlas dream remains alive and well.

48. Yuga Labs

To outsiders, it’s often not clear exactly what Bored Apes outfit Yuga Labs is for. Sometimes it’s not clear that Yuga Labs itself knows either. That confusion is slowly dissipating, however, as Yuga has sold off some of its secondary NFT collections including HV-MTL and Legend of the Mara. More importantly for its long term future, it now says its Otherside metaverse, which is being built with Improbable, is due for release in 2025. And that will be the hill on which the company will either flourish or die.

47. MON Protocol

In one of the most surprising reversals in blockchain gaming history, the notoriously awful Pixelmon NFT mint – priced at 3 ETH – was resurrected when crypto company LiquidX acquired and rebooted the IP, including half-melted poster child character Kevin the Adventurer. Since then, LiquidX itself has rebranded as the MON Protocol, a cross-community project that’s partnered with many other blockchain games, as well as launching its own MON token and working on multiple Pixelmon-braded games, including a signature open world RPG.

46. Voya Games

Berlin-based Voya Games has been patient, very patient. Launching its first NFT collection in 2022, it’s been working on mobile idle factory game Craft World ever since, slowly building community during a prolonged testnet alpha. 2025 should be the year when the game finally goes live, combining easy onboarding for casual players with advanced resource strategy optimization for NFT holders, who generate more of the core base elements. Both types of players need to collaborate, however, to pool their resources to build masterpiece items that reward them with everything from fun in-game badges to NFTs and token airdrops through collabs with external partners.

45. Sovrun

Starting out offering Axie breeding optimization services, BreederDAO – which rebranded as Sovrun in late 2024 – is now at the heart of two emerging trends. The first is the rise of fully onchain autonomous games such as EVE Frontiers, in which Sovrun has been building out aspects of the composable space combat and trading game on a permissionless basis. It’s also into the current AI agent boom, where it’s collaborating with the Virtuals platform and its GAME framework, launching ReadyGamer, which hopes to fuel a new wave of persistent and interoperable in-game AI agents.

44. Laguna Labs

Originally formed as Laguna Games, Laguna Labs is the scaled down outfit that emerged from the transformation of debut title Crypto Unicorns into a DAO. Now working on fully onchain game Neo Olympus, Laguna Labs has applied the lessons learnt, notably in terms of designing a game with a controllable economy in which users spend to create rarer objects, not spending to create more objects. In this way, Neo Olympus will launch with a fractionalized NFT meta game that will become a more accessible tactical RPG over time, allowing both high value holders and grind gamers to synergistically combine their skills for the greater good.

43. Mystic Moose

Launching its Planet Mojo ecosystem with its browser-based arena PVP game Mojo Melee, US dev Mystic Moose first expanded its brand with endless runner GoGo Mojo and cosmetic accessories, before combining its game heroes with AI agents in emerging project WorldWide Agents. This sees its game characters and other IP collabs including Pudgy Penguins and AI16z’s Eliza mashed up within Agents of Poker, in which agents compete to see who can win the most crypto. Other expected outcomes included allowing players to take these AI agents into other PVP experiences.

42. Zillion Whales

Well known for mobile strategy games such as the Mushroom Wars series, Zillion Whales has taken its expertise in the genre, and applied it to web3 in the shape of Wild Forest. One of the first third party games to be launched on the Ronin blockchain, it experienced steady success in 2024, with the sale of its NFTs, followed by various in-game events, culminating in the launch of its WF token in December. Currently, the third most popular game on Ronin in terms of daily active unique wallets, the challenge will be to build on this solid base, encouraging a more mass market audience while also retaining core fans.

41. KGen

Formed out of Indian Axie sub-DAO IndiGG, KGen – which stands for Kratos Games Network – has scaled internationally in 2024. Although Indian gamers remain a core audience, KGen has also seen strong growth in other geographies including Bangladesh, Nigeria, Egypt, Turkey and Brazil. Total membership is now over 13 million accounts, with 4.4 million MAUs and those numbers look set to rise with the launch of its rKGEN reward token, which will eventually convert to the KGEN token following its launch on the Aptos blockchain.

40. LINE Next

Learning fast is a prerequisite for success in web3, and LINE’s web3 division LINE Next has demonstrated that attribute by deciding to merge its Finschia blockchain with Kakao’s Klaytn blockchain to form joint venture Kaia. And this will be the foundation for the launch in 2025 of dozens of mini apps and games which run on Kaia for web3 services while also hooking into the Line messenger network for mass market virality. In this way, LINE Next hopes to mirror the success of the combination of Telegram and TON during 2024.

39. Avalon Corp

Having raised $23 million against its vision of an AI-powered metaverse in which every creator’s world connects with worlds from every other creator, 2025 will be the year in which we get a much better idea of how these concepts are synergizing for Avalon Corp’s ambitious eponymous MMORPG. It’s worth pointing out, however, that the team were early into AI agents, launching their first experiment in early 2024, so whatever they’re coming up with, it should be ahead of the curve.

38. WEMIX

Few business plans survive contact with the enemy and Wemade’s blockchain arm WEMIX has had to demonstrate flexibility in recent years. Its initial approach of converting dozens of web2 mobile games to blockchain did not work well. However, adding blockchain features to hybrid titles such as Mir4 and Night Crows has demonstrated more positive outcomes, even if neither game can yet be labelled as a true success. In conjunction with this, WEMIX has radically overhauled its tokenomic model, as well as launching ecosystem expansions such as its public good Wepublic initiative. New games including Legend of Ymir and an MMORPG from Mir4’s developer called Project M are also in development.

37. Boomland

The blockchain arm of Polish mobile publisher BoomBit, Boomland’s slow but steady expansion as a key player in the Immutable ecosystem continues. Its key action RPG Hunters On-Chain has run several successful play-to-airdrop events prior to its BOOM token going live, engaging with over 150,000 wallets. But Boomland is also working on future games, both in terms of the native integration of blockchain in some, with more casual experiences getting some level of tokenization to onboard mass market players into this ambitious platform play.

36. InfiniGods

Initially launching an interoperable set of simple browser games InfiniMerge and Immortal Siege, InfiniGods’ strategy has since doubled down on its mobile luck-battler King of Destiny. Supported by optimized UA spend, it’s been downloaded over 2 million times through app stores with around 500,000 MAUs and strong onchain monetization. And this level of audience has reinforced the wider InfiniGods’ community as it builds momentum for its GODS token launch. Of course, post-TGE is when the real work starts but InfiniGods looks set for a positive 2025.

35. SuperVerse

Despite coming in for some criticism over the shilling of its SUPER token by various KOLs including EllioTrades, gaming community DAO SuperVerse is one of the few such organizations that managed to survive 2024 with its token price intact. Whether this situation is one that will continue to thrive following the project’s proposed transition to running its own blockchain remains to be seen, however. Sometimes operating on vibes is much easier than competing on utility.

34. Neon Machine

The developer behind triple-A PC extraction shooter Shrapnel suffered a difficult 2024, with an ongoing lawsuit between the team and its initial investor rumbling on. However, with hopes that this will soon be resolved, and with new funding and a new CEO onboard, 2025 should prove to be a more positive environment. This will also be underpinned as the game becomes more feature complete and more extensive playtests become available.

33. TreasureDAO

Setting out to be the “decentralized gaming console”, TreasureDAO continues to stress the fair launch no-VC status of its MAGIC token’s launch in 2021, as well as its indie ethos. 2024 was a major year for the project, however, as it voted to move from Arbitrum to ZKsync, with its new mainnet going live in December. This means the coming months will see the complex operation to migrate all existing assets to their new home, before its new advantages of speed and interoperability become apparent.

32. Xterio

Usually a token launch is the cause of much celebration for projects and their supporters, but that certainly wasn’t the case for Xterio. The TGE for its XTER token was overshadowed by strong complaints about how and how many tokens were being distributed. It remains to be seen if these teething problems can be overcome. However, if nothing else, Xterio has plenty of games with which to tempt back players and perhaps even find new audiences. These range from mobile 4X game Age of Dino to AI-driven cosy farming sim Palio and 4X game Braves. Xterio is also building out new UA-focus infrastructure Reach Network with Rough House Games.

31. Pixion

In development for many years as UK developer Pixion experimented with honing its idea for an easy-to-play, hard-to-master mobile esport battler, 2025 is the year that Fableborne, which mixes ARPG raiding with strategic base building gameplay, finally goes live. Originally announced for Avalanche, its recent migration to Ronin has further excited the community; something that will be further enhanced by the incoming launch of its POWER token. Indeed, the game’s most recent playtest attracted 149,000 players who spent $540,000-worth of RON to boost their performances.

30. Mighty Bear Games

What a busy year 2024 was for Singapore-based developer Mighty Bear Games. Having experimented with a new speed PVP mode for battle royale game Mighty Action Heroes, it proceeded to take these learnings, rolling out an entirely new platform with multiple games featuring randomized rewards. Called GOAT Gaming, the project has since successfully leveraged the viral marketing potential of Telegram to hit 5 million players. Next up comes its GG token launch plus the release of its AlphaGOAT AI agents, which promise to generate revenue by automatically playing games and creating content.

29. Azra Games

Despite having raised $68 million in a blaze of publicity, crack US development studio Azra Games is turning increasingly silent about its forthcoming mobile RPG codenamed Project Legends the closer it gets to launch. Apparently this is because the game is so novel that Azra is worried about other developers copying its smarts. Nevertheless, with five playtests promised during 2025 to check retention and monetization, plus vital blockchain integration features, this will be the year we get a much better feel whether the team behind billion-dollar games such as Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes can – once again – revolutionize their chosen genre.

28. Today The Game

Always positioned as a high concept social UGC simulation, it’s only been with the rise of genAI that Today The Game has really captured the wider imagination of the blockchain game community. In particular, the launch of wise-cracking TikTok and Twitch-streaming AI agent Limbo demonstrated its potential. This is something that will be further explored through the developer’s Maestro framework, which will enable a wide range of autonomous agents to populate the game, which sees players taking over and developing their own island ecosystem.

27. Big Time Studios

Best known for its PC role-playing game Big Time, recent months have seen Big Time Studios focusing on its wider portfolio, notably the underlying Open Loot blockchain and marketplace. The recent launch of the OL token included an airdrop to engaged community members, and also turned the focus to the other forthcoming games using Open Loot. These include MMORPG WorldShards, looter shooter The Desolation, team-based action game Boss Fighters, and mobile RPG Shatterpoint.

26. NDUS Interactive

The key decision for South Korean developer NDUS Interactive was migrating its PC pop shooter Xociety from Polygon to Sui. At the time, it seemed an odd move, given the lack of gaming on Mysten Labs’ L1. But the announcement of the SuiPlay0X1 gaming PC portable means Xociety has been catapulted into the big leagues as the headline launch title for Sui’s gaming push in 2025. That should give the project a strong starting point as it looks to build out its wider economy which is based on how resources collected through play interact with the governance features encapsulated within the game’s internal corporation structure.

25. Sequence

Officially called Horizon Blockchain Games but now better known for its main product, Sequence has been working away for years to improve the onboarding process for blockchain games. Originally gaining product wins with the rise of Polygon, the social sign-on wallet tech has since become a truly multichain solution used by the likes of Ubisoft, Rough Neck Games and Nifty Island. Its most recent release also allows developers to have the best of both worlds, combining the ease-of-use of wallets that are directly integrated into games, while giving users the flexibility to interact more widely with third party apps and games.

24. Ava Labs

2024 was a big year for Avalanche developer Ava Labs. The successful launch of its Avalanche9000 chain upgrade lowered the costs for running an Avalanche-based L1, also increasing developers’ control over their infrastructure and improving decentralization. The blockchain also has some of the biggest gaming companies building on it, including Gunzilla Games’ console-based shooter Off The Grid, which launched on PS5 and Xbox in 2024, Nexon’s MapleStory Universe and Neon Machine’s Shrapnel. In that context, 2025 should see the blockchain’s profile continue to rise in respect to gaming.

23. Ubisoft

Despite uncertainty about its corporate structure, Ubisoft continues to experiment with blockchain, releasing two games at the end of 2024. Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles is a hardcore PC game requiring deep tactical understanding and running on Japanese-centric gaming blockchain Oasys. In contrast, Captain Laserhawk The G.A.M.E. offers a more mass market approach, combining a top-down competitive shooter set with the dystopian universe first seen in Netflix animation Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix.

22. Merit Circle

Starting out as an Axie Infinity-focused DAO, Merit Circle quickly modified its business model and is now a multi-faceted blockchain gaming entity. A core element is its investment arm, which has over $200 million-worth of liquid crypto assets. But 2024 was all about the launch of its Beam gaming infrastructure, which also saw its MC token rebranded as BEAM. As part of this shift, Merit Circle acquired developers including Forgotten Playground studio Vermilion. It’s working on its own first party game Eclipse of Edenhorde, while its investment arm also continues to expand with the launch of Abu Dhabi-based accelerator and fund Beam Ventures.

21. Telegram/TON

If distribution truly is destiny, Telegram cemented its long term success in 2024 by integrating the TON blockchain and giving all its billion users a crypto wallet. When combined with its mini-app store and Stars platform IAP currency, the result was the company became profitable for the very first time. In terms of blockchain games, this confluence also triggered the tap-to-airdrop trend that was leveraged by the likes of Notcoin, Hamster Kombat and Catizen. Of course, the arrest and continued detention of its CEO Pavel Durov in France has knocked some of the confidence out of the narrative. But the combination of massive global reach and seamless crypto access means that Telegram remains a key marketing channel.

20. Playful Studios

As its own product, Playful Studios’ MOBA-style esport game Wildcard could be live now but it’s a measure of the ambition of the US outfit that building a successful web3 esports isn’t enough. Instead, it’s also working on Thousands, an integrated spectator streaming and rewards platform that will run Wildcard, as well as other third party games. But if that seems like a tall order to fulfil, just remember that co-founder Paul Bettner and Katy Drake Bettner co-created games as successful as Age of Empires and Words With Friends.

 19. The Sandbox

Ending 2024 with its fourth alpha season, The Sandbox hit an audience all-time-high of 580,000 players during the 10 week period, and it’s looking to build on that success in 2025. Another four seasonal events are planned, and it’s hoped that the platform will also enter its beta testing stages. Other playable options will include the release of the first standalone mobile games within The Sandbox universe that follow its artistic style and integrate its existing NFT collections. So while it may be taking longer than expected to fully flourish, this metaverse is certainly not dead.

18. MetaKing Studios

As with many blockchain game companies, 2024 was less about launching core gameplay and more about infrastructure choices. So it was that MetaKing Studios announced and deployed its own Base-based L3 Lordchain for its PC strategy title Blocklords, including successfully launching its LRDS token. This isn’t to say nothing exciting happened game-wise. Browser companion app Blocklords Dynasty added new functionality for previously released character NFTs, while also acting as an airdrop mechanism for LRDS. However, the focus now swings back to Blocklords properly, with its new battle mode adding combat mechanics alongside the existing resource-centric farming and base building action.

17. Parallel Studios

With its Parallel TCG continuing to fly the flag for blockchain games in various esports tournaments and the PRIME token performing well during 2024, Parallel Studios is now expanding its vision, notably with forthcoming AI-heavy Parallel Colony sim. In addition, the Canadian studio raised a further $35 million taking its total funding to $85 million, and announced a new FPS – codenamed Project Tau Ceti – that will launch on the Base-based blockchain B3. It’s also worth pointing out that the developer hopes to leverage interoperability, with its Parallel Avatars acting as key assets across these experiences.

16. Nexpace (Nexon)

When it comes to ambition, no blockchain game can match MapleStory Universe. After all, MapleStory is South Korean publisher Nexon’s preeminent gaming IP; a 20-year-old MMORPG that’s generated billions of dollars of revenue. But more than just remaking the 2D RPG using its own blockchain based on Avalanche, Nexon’s blockchain arm Nexpace, is building a complete ecosystem, hence the ‘Universe’ part. This means that as well as a PC version of the game, there’s also the ability for everyone to generate their own user content, while developers get the advanced ability to plug into the platform’s SDK to build new apps and games using the underlying assets. Of course, this is a big project, but we expect to see more testing and live events as 2025 progresses.

15. YGG

The original Axie Infinity guild, Yield Guild Games has come a long way since the play-to-earn days of  2021. It’s now positioned as an onchain protocol, with its Onchain Guilds running on Base and open for other guilds and communities to plug into in order to unlock rewards for their own communities. Indeed, its vision for the “future of work” is to move beyond games, offering opportunities in areas such as DeFi, art, music and other social activities, while also allowing users to create their own reputations through their onchain actions.

14. Virtuals

Originally launched as gaming guild PathDAO in 2021, the team performed a hard pivot, instead refocusing on the-then novel technology of agentic AI, launching its new platform and VIRTUAL token in late 2023. However, it took until October 2024 for the market to fully react to the opportunity to launch their Virtuals-based own agents and tokens. The result has been a wave of adoption, with Virtuals’ own GAME framework for gaming agents proving particularly popular with partnerships quickly signed by Animoca Brands, Illuvium, Gam3r, Play, Sky Mavis and Yellow Panther.

13. Planetarium

In addition to building out its PC/mobile idle RPG Nine Chronicles into one of the most popular onchain games, South Korean developer Planetarium doubled-down on the genre in 2024, publishing mobile idle-RPG Immortal Rising 2. In the build up to its forthcoming TGE, its daily audience exceeded 100,000 DAUWs making it the top game on the Immutable blockchain. 2025 will see Planetarium’s focus swinging back to Nine Chronicles, however, with the launch of its final chapter, as well as key features such as guilds, two expansion games, and the switch to proof of stake consensus.

12. Mysten Labs

2024 started very slowly for Mysten Labs when it came to gaming on its Sui L1 blockchain, but the tempo picked up throughout the year as it added multiple titles including NDUS Interactive’s Xociety, SNK’s Shodown Samurai R, Animoca’s Darktimes and Gumi’s Brave Frontier Versus. Top esports outfit Team Liquid also relaunched its fan engagement platform MyBlue on the blockchain. Of course, this remains a relatively small slate of content but the SUI token’s upward price velocity, combined with the launch of the SuiPlay0X1 PC gaming portable in 2025, means it will be fascinating to see how this novel combination of blockchain games and web3-integrated hardware combines to drive wider adoption.

11. Limit Break

Consisting of a rockstar team spun out of mobile game developer MZ, Limit Break has spent over two years not talking about games. Instead it’s been rebuilding the deep infrastructure required to build the sort of products it wants to make. For NFTs, this was its ERC721C protocol, which enforced creator royalties for the first time, while ERC20C brings a similar measure of control to fungible tokens. How these primitives are combined into a product, we don’t yet know. But hopefully 2025 will bring some clarity, presumably in the form of a mobile game based around Limit Break’s existing DigiDaigaku NFT collection.

10. Faraway Games

Despite being an early adopter with one of the first games on Solana – browser-based shooter Mini Royale: Nation – US dev Faraway Games has since moved back towards the EVM world. Most notably, it’s become aligned with Yuga Labs, co-developing its Dookey Dash: Unclogged mobile game, while also acquiring the Legends of the Mara and HV-MTL NFT collections. The latter has proven particularly interesting as Faraway looks to retrospectively combine these robot characters into various web2 games including Shatterline, Rebel Skies and Villains. And that’s not to forget about its Serum City game with Mutant Hounds IP house Mutant Cartel. But the main priority in 2025 is the launch of Fchain, its own infrastructure, which is based on Avalanche.

9. CCP Games

Beloved for its twenty-year-old space MMORPG EVE Online, Icelandic developer CCP Games is taking on its greatest challenge to-date with the announcement of EVE Frontier. The fully onchain game is already available as a paid alpha, but this is less about creating a very early experience for players, but instead providing a very early platform for builders and creators to get to grips with the underlying tech stack, with the same level of access as CCP’s own developers. In this way, EVE Frontier can only be a success if the open source project manages to combine game assets, UGC and tools, and blockchain value in a seamless whole, no matter who they are created by.

8. Immutable
Having successfully launched its Polygon zkEVM-based infrastructure, and retaining its position as the most valuable gaming crypto, 2024 was also a foundational year for Immutable in terms of onboarding new games. It now claims more than 450 integrated titles and rising. The deficit, however, is found in the number of fully launched and live games, a lagging indicator, for sure. Projects such as Boomland’s Hunters On-Chain and Planetarium’s Immortal Rising 2 have demonstrated that such games do exist and can generate six-figure-audiences. The task now is to ensure vaunted titles such as RavensQuest and Space Nation can convert prelaunch interest into high active and retained player bases.

7. Gunzilla Games

The credibility gained as the first developer to launch a blockchain-enabled game on consoles has been a massive fillip for German outfit Gunzilla Games, which has raised $100 million against its vision for the success of third person shooter Off the Grid. But as it fully understands, there’s plenty more hard work to come in 2025, both in terms of transitioning its Avalanche-based Gunz blockchain from testnet to mainnet, as well as rolling out new game features including the single player campaign. In that respect, 2025 will be a pivotal year for Gunzilla, Off The Grid and the attempt to bring millions of gamers onto the blockchain.

6. Animoca Brands

Compared to the early days, Hong Kong-blockchain conglomerate Animoca Brands has become much more focused in terms of how it deploys its capital and resources. After all, it’s now invested in over 400 consumer-facing web3 outfits and so there are very few sectors in which it doesn’t have investments. Yet, thanks to its own background as a mobile game developer, games remain a core component, alongside education and digital asset ownership. Key projects include The Sandbox, Darewise’s Life Beyond, Motorverse, the Gamee network, and the TOWER ecosystem, while highlighted recent partnerships include Pudgy Penguins’ topco Igloo Inc. and the TON blockchain. Of course, pre-eminent among all these is its own Mocaverse network, which successfully launched its MOCA token and is leveraging it, and Animoca’s whole ecosystem, to enable gamers to be rewarded for building their own onchain reputations.

5. Mythical Games

Cementing its reputation as the most successful mobile blockchain game developer, US outfit Mythical Games doubled down on its existing strategy with the news that not only would it be launching FIFA Rivals, a soccer version of its NFL Rivals game, but it was collaborating with Igloo Inc to release mobile social title Pudgy Party in 2025. These join existing games Nitro Nation: World Tour, which is in soft launch, and Blankos Mobile, the mobile reworking of its debut PC mini-game platform Blankos. Yet games aside, the most significant recent news from Mythical was that the revenue it generates from NFL Rivals’ NFT trading fees on its Polkadot-based Mythos chain is now equal to that from IAPs. In other words, the more games and more assets it can get players trading, the more successful it believes it will become.

4. Pixels

The most popular blockchain game of 2024 in terms of average daily onchain activity, browser-based social RPG Pixels managed to combine the opportunity provided by the Ronin blockchain with smart collabs with projects such as Mocaverse and YGG to peak at over one million unique wallets in May. That it ended the year closer to 250,000 DAUWs is less about decline, however. Instead, the Pixels team’s goal is now to use the game and an expanding set of connected experiences to build a marketing network which can leverage the PIXEL token in such a way as to make the play-to-earn model accretive. To-date, Pixels is still giving away more tokens than it generates back as revenue. But with first ecosystem release Pixel Dungeons demonstrating positive returns, its overall vision is looking more achievable.

3. Igloo Inc.

The airdrop of Pudgy Penguins’ PENGU memecoins in December 2024 underlined a remarkable comeback for the NFT collection, which was acquired by Luca Netz for $2.5 million in April 2022, and now has rewarded all its holders with $85,000-worth of PENGU per penguin. But more is set to come in 2025 as IP owner Igloo Inc. also plans to launch its own consumer-focused Abstract L2 blockchain which focuses on ease of use for users, as well as sharing revenue with developers who launch apps and games on it. In addition, there will be plenty more ways to play with Pudgy Penguins thanks to new games such as Pudgy Party (Mythical Games), Pudgy Vibes (Orange Cap Games), Pudgy Life (PlayEmber) and Igloo’s own Pudgy World.

2. Sky Mavis

2024 was the year in which Sky Mavis could correctly position its Ronin blockchain as the place to go for quality web3 gaming. Not only did it host the most popular game in Pixels, but a sustained reward initiative saw Axie Infinity rise from 15,000 daily active players to over 100,000 by the end of the year. In addition, many other games launched seasonal and play-to-airdrop events, which in some cases drove engagement from hundreds of thousands of wallets. Examples included Lumiterra, Forgotten Runiverse, Aperion, The Machines Arena and Fableborne, all of which are looking to go ‘more live’ in various ways in 2025. Another success was mobile strategy game Wild Forest, which launched its WF token in December and despite some fall away of audience since, still has a sustained player base of some 80,000 daily wallets.

But aside from these known titles, the most significant pointer to Ronin’s continued success in 2025 is the decision to make its zkEVM infrastructure permissionless in Q1. This will allow any projects whether games or defi, memecoins, AI agents or prediction markets to launch on Ronin, expanding its scope considerably.

1. Proof of Play

Not as well known now as it will become, US developer Proof of Play is leading the blockchain gaming revolution in two important respects. Not only has it been quietly running the most popular fully onchain game in the shape of Pirate Nation for almost 2 years, but it’s also operating two of the most popular gaming blockchains, called Apex and Boss.

Of course, these two things are not unrelated. Arbitrum-based Apex first went live to support the growing popularity of Pirate Nation, with Boss quickly following as the game continued to attract attention following the launch of the PIRATE token and its ongoing points event for the forthcoming Proof of Play token launch.

And both aspects of the business have much further to expand. On the infrastructure side, Proof of Play is positioning itself as the AWS for blockchain gaming, with the expectation that its already highly scalable blockchains will over time become available for other studios to take advantage of. As for Pirate Nation, as a fully onchain experience, it has the potential to be expanded by developers other than Proof of Play; something that is already seen with the release of various third party tools. Players are also having an impact, building their own real money businesses within the game, leveraging crafting specializations to more efficiently sell the items other players require to progress.

The result is Proof of Play has built complementary and reinforcing flywheels in each part of its business. 2025 will be the year to see how fast they can really spin.
