Delabs Games on seizing midcore gaming’s Telegram potential
As we’re about to close the chapter of 2024 and look towards the dawn of a new year, we’ve been asking some of the key members of the blockchain gaming sector about their thoughts on the past year and what they expect in 2025.
Quinn Kwon is the head of web3 strategy at Delabs Games.
What was the most significant trend for the sector in 2024?
2024 witnessed the rise of Telegram-based games as a game-changing distribution channel for web3 gaming. This trend showcased Telegram’s ability to combine gaming with seamless social interactions, paving the way for massive user adoption. Titles like Catizen and Hamster Kombat, which attracted hundreds of millions of players, exemplified the power of integrating gaming into messaging platforms.
In the broader blockchain space, memecoins took center stage, driving unprecedented engagement and attention. Their explosive popularity reflected a cultural shift that could redefine gamification mechanics and economic models in blockchain gaming moving forward.
How did the focus of your business change this year?
At Delabs Games, we identified the untapped potential of Telegram as a gaming platform and pivoted our strategy accordingly. Our focus shifted to developing midcore games tailored for messaging ecosystems, leveraging Telegram and TON’s capabilities to deliver engaging experiences to its vast audience.
We are now gearing up for two major launches:
- Ragnarok IP idle RPG: A game centered around progression, crafting, and an open economy.
- Boxing Star: An action-packed competitive game enhanced with blockchain features for Telegram users.
This strategic shift positions us at the forefront of a burgeoning market while staying true to our mission of onboarding the masses into web3 gaming.
What do you predict will be the most important trends in 2025?
In 2025, we anticipate a resurgence in the crypto market, driven by key leaders emphasizing blockchain’s transformative potential. The focus will shift from speculative hype to delivering real-world products and services, emphasizing tangible use cases. This trend will accelerate blockchain adoption, showcasing its value beyond financial speculation and moving it closer to mainstream recognition.
What was your favorite blockchain game of the year?
The standout web3 game of 2024 was Off The Grid, which demonstrated exceptional potential to bridge the gap between web2 and web3 gamers. By prioritizing a product-driven launch and focusing on gameplay quality and accessibility, the game showcased how web3 titles can attract mainstream players. This approach underscored the importance of blending high-quality experiences with blockchain technology, further solidifying web3 gaming’s place in the broader industry.
What’s your New Year’s resolution, and what resolution would you enforce on the industry?
Our New Year’s resolution is to successfully launch Ragnarok and Boxing Star on Telegram, leading the charge in mass onboarding players into web3 gaming. By harnessing Telegram’s vast user base and intuitive platform, we aim to set a new standard for accessible, fun blockchain games within social ecosystems.
For the industry, our proposed resolution is to focus on game-first experiences: prioritize gameplay, accessibility, and quality to drive broader adoption. This shift will help move blockchain gaming from niche communities to the global mainstream.
