Wanderers to launch on Treasure’s forthcoming L2
Following its recent open beta testing, sci-fi roguelite Wanderers has announced it will deploy exclusively on Treasure’s forthcoming L2 blockchain.
Claiming it has been offered multiple offers from other ecosystems, the Wanderers team was drawn to Treasure’s “decentralized game console approach”. Notably, in a surprise move Treasure recently announced the migration of its entire gaming ecosystem from Arbitrum to ZKsync, with mainnet launch expected in Q4 2024.
Incepted in 2021, Wanderers is co-developed by WanderLabs and Animoca Brands’ subsidiary Blowfish. Combining deck-building elements with sci-fi storytelling it’s described as a classic example of the roguelite subgenre including roguelike features including procedurally generated levels and permadeath. However, it also offers mechanics like progression systems and upgrades that are carried over between runs.
Powered by the WANDER token, the game includes web3 elements in the form of NFTs. Since 2021, these have generated significant trading volume, with 5,500 ETH (around $14 million to-date) across multiple chains, including Polygon and Solana.
In terms of this latest partnership, Wanderers is looking to leverage Treasure’s infrastructure Magicswap and Treasure Connect to enhance its interoperability features, and more. Forthcoming game updates include co-op and PvP modes.
Wanderers co-founder Nick Greenwalt commented, “While we’ve explored building on other chains, Treasure’s track record with indie developers, their community-first approach, and quite honestly their entire ecosystem’s vibes align perfectly with our vision. Their success in fostering innovative games and engaged communities made them the clear choice for Wanderers‘ next phase of growth.”
Treasure co-founder and CEO Karel Vuong added, “Wanderers exemplifies the type of innovative, community-driven project that thrives on Treasure. Just like the team at Treasure, Wanderers is a perfect example of the independent spirit and approach to building we look to champion as we expand our ecosystem. As we prepare for our mainnet launch, this partnership demonstrates how our platform continues to attract forward-thinking developers and visionaries striving to grow the pie.”
