Nine Chronicles mobile: one year on and what to expect ahead

Approaching the one-year mark since its launch via mobile app stores, Nine Chronicles‘ developer Planetarium has dropped a development update including significant gameplay changes.

Building on its initial vision of a “community-driven, eternal game world”, Planetarium recently rolled out the Adventure Boss & Custom Creation mode as part of its open-source development strategy. As a result, it hopes the Nine Chronicles community will keep growing and remain engaged in the NCG token ecosystem.

Indeed, the mobile launch of Nine Chronicles, a game which was previously only available on PC, was itself an attempt to increase the user base and engagement. And although to some level successful, with both the amount of staked and used NCG tokens increasing significantly since the launch, the developer has identified some crucial retention issues.

Despite efforts to find the right balance to help new users adapt, a majority of players still seem to get stuck at World 5 and 6, in what the developer calls “the middle stages”. Users then leave without advancing any further.

Planetarium points out that the reason for this pattern is “necessary balance adjustments made over the past four years to protect the investments of the long-standing community that has supported Nine Chronicles.”

Now with the first anniversary less than a month away, Nine Chronicles is planning multiple events and collaborations as a way to onboard new players. However, to retain these players long-term, some vital adjustments will also be introduced. These include letting old and new users actively compete with each other, as well as allowing early players to move up, “with the goal of tripling the number of users entering World 8”.

Additionally, among some of the significant changes are World Boss rewards and the Runes reward system. The crafting slots will also increase, with more pets which can be summoned using Soulstones also being introduced. As the 20th November anniversary is drawing closer, more features will be unveiled.
