Sky Mavis cuts headcount by 21%
Sky Mavis is cutting its headcount by 21% in order to spearhead its focus on business growth in 2025.
Revealed in a post on social platform X, Sky Mavis co-founder and CEO Trung Nguyen commented, “Our sharpened focus will center on:
- Ronin Wallet/Waypoint,
- Mavis Marketplace,
- Axie Infinity / a new Axie game,
- web3 game publishing, and
- expanding the Ronin network for more builders.”
Unfortunately for Sky Mavis’ staff, this business strategy also involves the letting go of 21% of its workforce, around 50 positions.
Nguyen emphasises however that “This decision is not related to the company’s budget or financial health. Instead, it is a strategic move that allows for a sharper focus”.
Concluding his message, he states that going forward, the expectations will increase for the remaining workforce, “but so will the rewards”.
So, as it’s looking to continue its expansion both in terms of users and developers, Ronin has announced it expects to become a fully open permissionless blockchain in Q1 2025. This will allow any game developer to launch and scale its games via Ronin.
Sky Mavis has also announced the launch of a new title as part of its native Axie Infinity IP, although no more details have been revealed.
