What Is This Studios hits Kickstarter funding goal ahead of Epic Games launch

Building momentum ahead of its season 0 launch, What Is This Studios has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for the creation of physical cards based on its flagship TCG What Is This Sorcery (WITS).
Set to launch via Epic Games Store in the coming weeks, WITS claims to be the first web3 game gaining support from Kickstarter. The funding campaign is focused on the creation of physical cards, while also being a marketing strategy to expand the WITS community beyond its web3 audience.
Deploying across new consumer-first blockchain Abstract and no-gas Ethereum EVM chain Skale, the game has adopted NFC technology – Near Field Communication – to allow contactless communication between NFC-enabled devices. This means the physical cards are embedded with NFC chips, which allow them to be integrated into the digital game. This also allows players to authenticate ownership and trade their cards in order to build decks seamlessly.
Its NFC adoption was the main reason WITS was chosen by Kickstarter.
Skale CMO Andrew Saunders commented, “This is a revolutionary moment for both web3 and the trading card game genre, and we’re incredibly excited to see Kickstarter directly supporting and embracing this new, immersive experience as we prepare for its launch on Skale.”
WITS co-founder and CEO Nick Grossi added, “Blending digital and physical gameplay allows users to connect, create, and compete in ways never before possible. We are excited to join Skale’s growing roster of games in the near future, and today’s launch of the Kickstarter campaign is just the beginning.”
In addition to receiving exclusive cards that can be integrated into the TCG, Kickstarter backers will get early game access as well as other exclusive rewards.
With 24 days to go, WITS has exceeded its pledged goal of $20,000, with 107 backers contributing $41,000 to-date (10th February).
