Yuga Labs’ Otherside officially opens its doors on 12th November
Following a prolonged test period, Yuga Labs is finally launching the first official version of its Otherside metaverse, with the browser experience opening its doors on 12th November.
The launch will see players entering the Koda Nexus, which is a social hub and the central experience for Otherside, which will slowly expand with new games and locations.
To-date, some of its functionality has been tested using bubbles, which appear to be the mechanism for travelling between different areas such as the swamp and Meetropolis.
Neither wallets or NFTs will be required to access Koda Nexus, but if you do hold an Otherside land NFT, you’ll be able to connect it to the Nexus. Otherside’s Koda characters will also be activated. This will be the start of the metaverse’s resource generation system; something that will be expanded through future seasons.
The launch will be supported with new content such as the Boximus avatar, which is being launched with Amazon Gaming on Thursday 30th October. Otherside’s lead designer Daniel Arsham is also launching a limited-edition of 300 avatars.
More generally, Yuga Labs is also pushing its Otherside Development Kit (ODK), which allows third party developers to create their own experiences.
These have also been used to create more traditional games within the Otherside universe such as 8v8 shooter Bathroom Blitz and zombie infection game Outbreak.
