MIR4 players have traded over 40,000 character NFTs

Mir4’s headline achievements over five years — 24 million accounts, 40 million in-game characters created and more than 15,000 fortress wars — demonstrate the success of South Korean developer Wemade’s signature MMORPG franchise.

In that context, the news that players have traded its character NFTs more than 40,000 times, which could be anything from 40,000 characters traded once or one character traded 40,000 times, looks relatively small fry.

Nevertheless, blockchain has provided the game with concrete utility, allowing thousands of players to monetize their characters’ accumulated progress. If nothing else, it provides one of the clearer applications of digital ownership in traditional gaming.

And, more significantly, Wemade is still launching new blockchain elements. In July, it released EXDRA4, the fourth season of MIR4’s EXDRA utility token. EXDRA4 can be traded for WEMIX through PNIX DEX, transferred between WEMIX PLAY wallets and used as a game item.

Wemade is also distributing it as a reward for purchases made with WEMIX Coin, connecting blockchain payments, game spending and in-game utility. The launch promotion runs well into 2027.

So while it’s difficult to point to blockchain play a significant part in MIR4’s success, it has provided a durable economic layer, giving a subset of players additional ways to trade characters, convert resources and receive spending rewards.

And unlike the token systems attached to many blockchain games launched during and since the 2021 boom, it remains operational and supported.
