Animoca Brands led the round
Axie Infinity developer Sky Mavis has closed a $1.465 million funding round.
It was led by Animoca Brands, which can now truthful claim to be the leading global investor in and developer of blockchain games.
Its investment consists of $125,000 in cash, and $295,000 in shares.
It will also pay $45,000 for Sky Mavis to advise it on the design of NFT economics. Axie Infinity has sold $1.1 million-worth of NFTs.
Hashed, Pangea Blockchain Fund, ConsenSys, and 500 Startups also participated.
Speed the plough
The cash will be used to accelerate Axie Infinity’s development, including its Land features, a mobile dapp, and play-to-earn monetization.
Also, like other developers such as Immutable, EverdreamSoft and Blockade Games, Sky Mavis will attempt to build out a technology stack other developers can use to make blockchain games and other products.
“I’m so proud of our team and community. This is what blockchain development is all about, a small team from Vietnam being able to attract funding from some of the top investors in the space,” commented Sky Mavis CEO Trung Nguyen.
“We now have the resources to take the Axie vision to people in the real world. We’re fully focused and locked in on the mobile app launch right now — we can’t wait to show it to everyone.”
