Line Next bringing web3 to Sega’s 1991 game Rent A Hero
Further strengthening its ties with Japanese game company Sega, Line’s web3 venture Line Next has unveiled the first Sega-licensed blockchain title as part of its DOSI project.
Based on Sega’s Rent a Hero, Line Next is working on Rent a Hero Z, adding blockchain features to the original action RPG from 1991.
A first glimpse of the game will be showcased in the form of a theme song, which has been created by Sega, at its booth during the Tokyo Game Show 2024. A live performance of the song is scheduled for 28th September.
Rent a Hero Z will officially launch in 2025.
In terms of Line Next, it’s raised $140 million for its mobile-based web3 games platform DOSI. In July 2023, the company announced a strategic partnership with Sega, entailing bringing one or more Sega IP to DOSI.
Following this, Line Next’s Finschia blockchain, which previously supported DOSI, announced a merger with Kakao’s Klaytn network to form L1 blockchain Kaia. As for Sega Singapore, which is a subsidiary of Sega and the team steering its general web3 business, it’s both a governance member and node validator of Kaia.
