Moonray integrates with Base ahead of free NFT mint and MNRY token launch
With early access live on PC, a mobile game in development, and a forthcoming console launch, Moonray Studio is busy preparing for its next NFT mint. This time, it’s integrated with Ethereum L2 Base for the free mint of its NFT collection, which consists of playable character skins. The mint is set for 19th November on OpenSea.
Currently based on Ethereum, the developer’s flagship game Moonray will see significant improvements by integrating with Base’s scaling-optimized infrastructure.
“To achieve broad adoption, you need to focus on the gamer and what brings value to them. In-game cosmetics are nothing new and something the vast majority of gamers enjoy. The infrastructure the Base blockchain and its ecosystem provide, allow us to offer true ownership of those digital items within Moonray, giving players the flexibility they deserve,” commented Moonray Studio co-founder and CBO Hans Andersson.
More than that, the integration will also enable token based wagering. With its heavy focus on esports, community-driven wagering and tournaments are core features of Moonray.
“The integration with the Base blockchain will enable a substantially better experience for the gamers and organizers in this regard than what is possible without it,” said Andersson. Part of Moonray’s pillars is also its ecosystem utility token MNRY, an ERC20 token which is created by The Miium Foundation.
In terms of gameplay, Moonray is a multiplayer battle arena set in a future post-human world, aimed at casual players as well as esports professionals. To that end, the game will include token based tournaments and wagering, through which it hopes to appeal to a larger esports crowd.
Currently live on PC via Epic Games Store, Moonray has also announced its 2025 launch on PlayStation5, although this will be released without any web3 features.
Andersson commented, “Beyond the amazing possibilities with web3 infrastructure, it is critical “web3” games can attract “web2” gamers.”
“Enabling cross play to bring in a larger player base found on consoles and Steam is incredibly valuable, but also as important is that our approach positions us well once Sony PlayStation and other large distribution platforms decide on how to integrate blockchain”
