TON adds LayerZero’s cross-chain protocol

After announcing its exclusivity deal with Telegram, TON is now integrating LayerZero Labs’ cross-chain protocol to connect to other blockchains.
In order to advance asset interoperability, TON is leveraging LayerZero to connect with more than 100 other chains. Starting with 12 blockchains, the initial ones include the likes of Ethereum, Tron, and Solana. Practically, this means users within the TON ecosystem now have access to multi-chain liquidity.
Until now, poor liquidity is one of the challenges TON has been dealing with, partly due to its limited access to crypto assets on other blockchains. Following the integration of LayerZero, users will now be able to transfer their assets from other chains directly to TON via bridging protocol Stargate.
In addition to Stargate, LayerZero is used by other partner projects on TON including:
- USDT0, with its Legacy Mesh connecting USDT deployments with USDT0 between TON, Tron, Ethereum, and Arbitrum, and
- Ethena, a yield-bearing stable asset protocol expanding to TON through LayerZero’s OFT Standard.
Besides cross-chain interoperability and asset deployment, LayerZero offers developers its new project FunC++, which is a programming language for TON aiming to improve development efficiency and reduce compilation times.
TON Foundation COO Max Pertsovskiy commented, “By connecting TON to a wide variety of other chains, developers now have all the tools they need to build decentralized applications for a truly global audience.”
“We believe this integration marks a significant step forward for TON when it comes to uniting ecosystems and bringing greater interoperability to the broader crypto ecosystem.”
LayerZero CEO Bryan Pellegrino added, “After its exclusive partnership with Telegram, TON now has access to nearly a billion users. This direct integration has the potential to transform how a significant portion of the world interacts with blockchain technology. At LayerZero Labs, that’s exactly what we aim to do. We’re excited to announce full support for the TON blockchain.”
