Square Enix expands Symbiogenesis to Sony’s Soneium

Despite its previously announced sunsetting at the end of July 2025, Square Enix’s story-driven web3 experience Symbiogenesis is now expanding to Sony’s Soneium blockchain.
As part of the move, it’s teamed up with 5v5 MOBA battler Evermoon and sleep-to-earn app Sleepagotchi, both also deployed on Soneium.
However, it’s not clear whether this deal will see new Symbiogenesis content developed or if this is more of a marketing campaign using existing content to onboard new users onto Soneium.
“At present, this marks their final season. We continue to engage in discussions with Square Enix about potential future collaboration, but as Soneium’s point of view, we’re unable to share further details,” a Soneium spokesman said.
In terms of what the campaign entails, players who complete the main story epilogues from Chapters 1-4 in Symbiogenesis by 31st May 2025 will get a Soneium-based NFT, which unlocks various perks across Sleepagotchi and Evermoon.
Among these are exclusive missions, Sleepagotchi boosters and a rare in-game character, as well as early access to Evermoon’s forthcoming playtest.
As for Symbiogenesis, the narrative-driven experience revolves around its 10,000 strong character NFT collection, which has been rolled out in stages, each unlocking new content in the Symbiogenesis story. So far its NFTs have been minted across Ethereum, Arbitrum and Polygon. Heading to Soneium marks the first top game publisher partnering with the Japanese blockchain.
