PC/mobile MMORPG ROM: Golden Age now live

Following Mir4 and Night Crows, the third major MMORPG has gone live on Wemade’s WEMIX blockchain globally, excluding Korea, China, and Singapore.

Its mobile/PC ROM: Golden Age from South Korean developer RedLab, which is a web3-enabled version of its 2024 web2 game ROM: Remember Of Majesty.

Gaining over 5 million pre-registrations, the game is currently showing between 100,000 to 500,000 downloads from Google Play, with reports that it’s currently doing around 70,000 DAUs.

In terms of gameplay, it’s effectively an idle/autoplay game with the usual array of levelling, gear and resource options you’d expect from a deep Korean-developed MMORPG.

Players pick between three character classes with sub-classes then available as you play through the game. An account can also have three different characters attached, with the option to unlock additional slots, and multiple different costumes for each class.

In terms of the blockchain elements, these revolve around the offchain resources called diamonds and crystals. These can be minted into onchain CROM and CRYSTAL tokens.

In turn, CROM can be staked to generate CRYSTAL or swapped for the USDC.e stablecoin, a version of the standard USDC that’s been bridged to the WEMIX blockchain.

CROM and WEMIX’s PLAY token can also be used to purchase in-game items and other digital assets.

“Today’s web3 games are more about monetizing gameplay than the actual enjoyment that comes with gaming, but we will continue building games that put real ownership back in the hands of players, and economies that reward real skill — not speculation — all while ensuring triple-A standards of fun,” commented Wemade’s global gaming executive and EVP Wonil Suh.
