Yuga’s new CEO Greg Solano unveils a new vision
Yuga Labs CEO Daniel Alegre is being replaced by co-founder Greg Solano. Alegre made an internal announcement to Yuga employees, followed by an official statement on X.
“I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to lead this great team and to have connected globally with so many community members. Yuga has such a bright future,” commented Alegre, who previously worked at Activision Blizzard.
A wave of Yuga supporters have expressed their praise for Alegre and his committed work as CEO, including Animoca Brands chairman and co-founder Yat Siu.
“Congratulations @CryptoGarga and thank you for all the developments and laying the foundation @dalegre on this next chapter of growth for @yugalabs @BoredApeYC 2024 will be an amazing year for all of #web3,” commented Siu on X.
It’s no secret that Yuga, like many others, was impacted by the crypto winter, announcing in October 2023 that it had to downsize its US team.
“It’s a challenging time, not only for our industry but also for the global economy. We must stay focused on our core strengths as we continue to create unique, engaging experiences for the broader Yuga audience. The restructure today impacts US team members, and we are actively reviewing the impact on our international teams,” wrote Alegre in light of the events.
Meanwhile, Yuga’s new CEO Greg Solano is focusing ahead and has laid out a revamped vision for the company, which he describes as being in need of a more cryptonative focus. “I’m reinvigorated to be taking the reins for our next chapter,” said Solano.
A first step has been to start a new company – Yuga subsidiary BAYC LLC – that will be in charge of everything BAYC.
Looking at gaming in particular, he says the focus should be on more fun and mass market games, with the mention of Faraway-collaboration Dookey Dash and its forthcoming mobile sequel Dookey Dash Unclogged.
In terms of where Otherside is heading, it will look to become an engaging everyday space for playing and socializing, with availability reaching beyond Yuga’s community. Solano also emphasises that the community needs to join in and experience Otherside more frequently.
As a means to improve its communication and become more transparent, Yuga will kick off a global event on 29th February called Apes Come Home. For the first time, users will be able to experience their Ape avatars in 3D while exploring and socializing on Otherside’s first map, Bored Ape Island.
While not many details have been revealed yet, Apes Come Home is intended to be an open-ended exploration experience, exclusively for holders of Otherdeeds, Kodas, Apes, Mutants, and GTag NFTs, while Meebit holders will have to wait until spring.
