Overcoming negative NFT hype for ordinary gamers [video]

A panel of experts talks about the ins and outs of the negative hype surrounding NFTs at Pocket Gamer Connects London 2022.

What are the negative notions surrounding NFTs today? How can developers overcome these knee-jerk reactions to better educate ordinary gamers about blockchain technology? Dive into these questions and more in this session from our live conference earlier this year, Pocket Gamer Connects London 2022.

The negative hype of NFT games

At the online conference Pocket Gamer Connects London 2022, Sean Kauppinen (Hiber), Nick Sadler (Goldfinch), Kim Soares (Social First), Tsahi Liberman (Lightneer) and Bozena Rezab (GAMEE) discuss the stigma that ordinary gamers have when it comes to NFTs. They talk about the nuances of introducing blockchain games to mass market users.

How to best set up wallets, security issues that developers need to solve, the fact that gamers are not financial experts and how can developers make things simple to understand without the steep learning curve are all things that are addressed in the talk.

Changing ordinary gamers’ mindsets

Devs should focus on player utility and what players actually want. NFTs should be introduced to a game not because developers see them as an easy cash grab.

Because many ordinary gamers can be hostile to NFTs, developers need to address how blockchain gives players more utility for their assets. For instance, blockchain offers an avenue for some players to build up their characters and sell them in a legitimate space. No longer will players have to trade their assets in the black market.

Toward the end of the session, the panel answers handpicked questions from the audience about investing in blockchain games, sharing the revenue across the film and music industry and more.

This 45-minute talk is ideal for anyone who’s always been curious about how NFTs provide players liquidity. It’s a good watch for people who want to know more about how blockchain decentralises value as well.
