BitGuild shuts down Magic Academy for “from the ground up” optimization

The pains of blockchain game development

Blockchain game platform BitGuild has temporarily closed down Magic Academy, one of its two live games.

In an email statement, marketing manager Max Preusse said following feedback from players, it had been decided the game required “further work and optimization on integral game systems in order to strike the perfect balance”.

For that reason Magic Academy has been taken offline and all PLAT – BitGuild’s platform currency – is in the process of being refunded.

Time to regroup

Criticism appears to have been centred about the developer changing the rules about in-game ranking and lucky draw bonuses.

As for the game’s future, it’s going to be rebalanced “from the ground up”.

“We’ll stop at nothing to create a fun, fair and compelling gameplay experience,” Preusse writes.

Players can provide feedback via the BitGuild Discord server.

Aside from Magic Academy, BitGuild’s second game Ether Online remains live, while it’s announced other third party games Axie Infinity, Eth.Town and Mythereum are going live soon. The platform’s first internally-developed title wil be Bitizens.
