Matthew Simone is a web3 gaming consultant and host of The Web3 Gamer podcast.
What was the most significant industry news of 2023?
The most significant development this year was undoubtedly the advent of the BitVM network, which revolutionized the Bitcoin network by enabling smart contracts. This breakthrough was particularly noteworthy as it overcame the limitations of Bitcoin’s older technology, something that was once considered an impossibility.
How did the focus of your business change this year?
This year, I pivoted my focus towards nurturing my own business, capitalizing on the long-term potential of blockchain technology. By integrating my personal passions and expertise, I was able to cultivate a vibrant network of like-minded individuals who share a belief in the transformative power of blockchain.
What do you predict will be the most important trends in 2024?
Predicting the trends of 2024 is quite challenging, but I foresee a continued emphasis on a ‘games first’ mentality in the industry. I anticipate more studios adopting a hybrid approach, seamlessly integrating both web2 and web3 elements. This will empower gamers to engage with each realm according to their preferences.
What was your favorite blockchain game of the year?
Choosing a single favorite blockchain game is tough, as I admire every studio that dedicates itself to the art of game creation. I celebrate the innovative spirit that drives these studios to find new ways to entertain and leverage emerging technologies to enhance gaming experiences.
What’s your New Year’s resolution and what resolution would you enforce on the industry?
My resolution is to continually support and foster a sense of community, especially for those new to the field.
In the industry, I’d encourage a culture of humility, collaboration, and mentorship. Regardless of the size of one’s game or company, giving others a chance to collaborate and mentoring those who seek it is crucial for sustainable growth and innovation.
