Puffverse secures $3 million in funding to support move to Ronin

Currently based on BNB, the Puffverse universe is migrating its NFT characters and forthcoming game portfolio to Sky Mavis’ Ronin network. Alongside news of the move, the team has also announced its raised $3 million in funding.

In a strategic move aiming to onboard more web3 players, Puffverse has unveiled plans to launch its games on Ronin, starting with multiplayer royale party game PuffGo.

With a range of themes and gameplay modes, PuffGo also features UGC functions, which lets users craft their own game maps. In the future, the broader vision is to allow users to create their own metaverses. This will further be enhanced by the integration of AIGC (Artificial Intelligence-Generated Content), which lets users control the AI tool via text commands.

“Moving Puffverse to the Ronin blockchain was a strategic decision rooted in our commitment to making our 3D universe more accessible to both web2 and web3 users. Our Puff characters’ compatibility with the beloved Axie community makes this migration a natural fit. We’ve been impressed by Ronin’s support across marketing, operations, and user acquisition and can’t wait to see the next stage of growth for Puffverse,” commented Puffverse co-founder and COO Lya L.

Indeed, the collaboration between Ronin developer Sky Mavis’ and Puffverse goes one step further. In conjunction with news of the migration, Puffverse also announced it’s closed a $3 million investment round, in which Sky Mavis participated. Led by Animoca Brands, other investors in the round included Arcane Group, Spartan Group, Foresight Ventures, HashKey Capital, and Xu Family Office.

Animoca Brands co-founder and executive chairman Yat Siu commented, “Puffverse has enjoyed a strong year with the launch of Puff Football NFTs and IGO Points in PuffGo. The Ronin chain is emerging as one of the premier chains for gaming, and is a good choice to take Puffverse to the next level.”

“Party games, with their quick gameplay loops and dynamic social features could be a very good fit for elevation via web3 mechanics. The Puffverse team also understands the East Asia and China market, which we believe is ripe for Ronin to expand into,” added Sky Mavis CEO and co-founder Trung Nguyen.

More generally, Sky Mavis recently announced the Ragnarok Online universe is joining its Ronin ecosystem, starting with the launch of MMORPG Ragnarok: Monster World. In February 2024, the company also revealed that GMonsters is set to bring three games from the Fight League franchise to Ronin. In addition to its native Axie Infinity games, Ronin is now also powering the most popular blockchain game Pixels, as well as newer releases including Apeiron, Wild Forest, The Machines Arena and Kaidro.

On April 29th, a snapshot of all Puff NFTs on the BNB Chain will be taken, followed by the migration and airdrop of the NFTs to the corresponding addresses on Ronin. Puffverse will also launch its token and an exclusive NFT collection on Ronin later in 2024.
