Animoca Brands takes control of Cool Cats NFT collection

Following the news in May that it’s looking to IPO in the US, Animoca Brands has been busy announcing multiple new deals and partnerships. Most recently, together with Coin Operated Group, the company made a strategic investment into Cool Cats Group.

Animoca previously made an investment into Cool Cats in 2022. This recent one means Animoca and Coin Operated Group now own a majority interest in the company and will appoint two new board members; Animoca founder and chairman Yat Siu, and Moca Network project lead Kenneth Shek.

Significantly, it hopes to drive synergy between what it labels “the Western-origin Cool Cats collection” and “its Eastern-origin Mocaverse” uniting both communities through shared intellectual property, utility, and rewards.

As for Cool Cats, it’s Ethereum-based 9,999 strong NFT collection has exceeded $410 million in lifetime trading volume to date, ranking 19th among the top NFT collections by all-time, according to Cryptoslam.

In 2023, the company announced it was working on three games co-developed with other Animoca-related companies such as nWay and iCandy.

Colin Egan, founder of Cool Cats and the artist behind Blue Cat from which Cool Cats originate, said, “Partnering with Animoca Brands is a dream come true for Cool Cats. Blue Cat has always been a character with a global heart, and I’ve long believed his story was destined to connect with audiences in the East. With Animoca Brands’ reach and passion, we can bring that vision to life on a truly global stage.”

Siu commented, “NFTs thrive on the strength of their communities, and by integrating Cool Cats into Mocaverse and Moca Network, we’re deepening these global connections and offering communities a robust ecosystem that delivers value to its stakeholders. Cats have always been the darlings of the Internet, and Cool Cats is one of the most recognised digital brands out there, perfectly exemplifying the global appeal of digital felines.”

Earlier this week, Animoca Brands announced a partnership with AMGI Studios to support the adoption of PC shooter My Pet Hooligan, followed by news it’s entered strategic partnerships to apply for a stablecoin issuer license in Hong Kong.

Moreover, it’s unveiled Nuva, a new vault marketplace connecting real-world asset issuers with investors, which is co-developed with ProvLabs.
