2018 in Review: Gabby Dizon, Alto

Obsessed with Axie Infinity

As a turbulent year in the blockchain game sector draws to an end, we’re getting the opinions of some of the key players about what just happened.

And as well as finding out what they thought were the most significant events in 2018, we’re looking forward to what will occur in 2019.

We will start seeing big budget, triple-A type games that are blockchain-enabled in 2019

Gabby Dizon Chairman, Alto

Gabby Dizon is the chairman and co-founder of Alto, a Philippines-based developer of blockchain tools for game companies.

BlockchainGamer.biz: What was the most important blockchain game sector trend for your company in 2018?

Gabby Dizon: The item pre-sale was a very important trend, and established itself as a valid way for game creators to raise funds and awareness for their games from their community.

This is very different from an ICO because item pre-sales usually involve game items that are actually usable in game, and the amounts raised are far smaller than ICOs. We will see more of this continuing in 2019.

What do you think was the most important news/trend generally?

We can’t really ignore the current “crypto winter” or downturn where prices of most cryptocurrencies are down over 90%, as it affects everything in the sector.

That said, there are some notable games that have been released this year, and a lot more interesting content and platforms launching in 2019.

What blockchain game did you play the most in 2018?

Axie Infinity! I’m completely obsessed, I already have over 50 Axies at the moment and have sold an Axie for around 1.3 ETH. Engaging game, great community, and they continuously improve their product.

What do you think will be the biggest trend in 2019?

We will start seeing big budget, triple-A type games that are blockchain-enabled in 2019. It would be interesting to see how blockchain is used, and if the blockchain interactions are hidden from the end user, but have tangible benefits over using a traditional database.

What’s your resolution for 2019?

Ship product! The Alto Forge (drag and drop NFT item creator) is coming out in Q1 2019, and Battle Racers from Altitude Games [Alto’s sister company] will be launch a little later within the year. I’m really excited for both.
